You missed the point - white oak - it is what barrels are made of. It is different than other woods in that it absorbs water, swells and holds tight as long as it is kept wet , but if allowed to dry, tends to split. I have a half a dozen oak barrels, and you have to soak each one completely submerge...

Thanks for posting Chef. I thought that's where I stole this picture. I forgot to label it. As far as drilling holes, that is a lot of holes to drill. I think there are 90 or so, plus the wasp-shaped pieces at the waist. We were just discussing utilizing a 3 nail pattern and the increase hole size, as one bent over wouldn't grip very hard and would require being peened, but 3 would grab in all directions. And I don't want to peen 400 rivets!

James Gillespie is one of the best armours around! I've got his frog-faced grand bascinet (Churburg), a pair of overlapping angel wing pauldrons and a pair of mitten gauntlets in my Milanese harness - excellent work! Any interest in stainless steel brig plates?

We are looking at having a machine shop make us some of these brigadine plates in stainless. Is there any interest in making extra? If we swing 5 (X 90+ plates ea.) or so, the price would drop for each, respectively. If so, what guage? 18 or 20 guage? No prices yet, no commitments, I just wanted to ...

I try to use only mild where authenticity is concerned. I'd never dream of trying S.S. in my Regia Anglorium kit. When I portray a Norman on horseback, I merely have the helmet to polish, my mail shirt needing to be duller anyway, so I currently don't need to worry about it. That being said, I prefe...

Thanks - the saex is a Regia combat saex. They start you with saex and shield, and spear and shield. The sword is sharp, so when I go to fight I slip off the baldric and am legal.

First off, I would rather be a horseman, there is nothing that compares. To be one with your steed, to feel the wind as you float across the field, to stop and watch a hawk drop to snatch something you turned up, that is what is best. The best thing for the inside of a man is the outside of a horse....
