Mike, you are either repeating yourself, or I am drunk and seeing double. Whatever. Owen: I'll deal with a mule, but I ain't riding the bastard. My Grampa, who grew up on a farm in Kentucky, always swore that riding mules was a lot easier than horses. The leather soles on #6 might work for riding. I need a stiff sole as the stirrups cause a cramping in my feet when I keep my heels down when wearing soft shoes. Plus, #6 is so obnoxious looking you've gotta love 'em. All the turnshoes I've made have been basically leather socks, except one pair I b...

I hate the Indian cast brass center post buckles on my Milanese harness, and that I have been to lazy to learn how to carve and detail the leather straps. I should be carving the wax buckles now instead of sitting at this computer. I wish I'd finish the padded linen/horsehair liner in my frog-faced ...

I Hate the SCA - I hate the fact Pennsic is huge, but they don't allow horses. I hate that I can't play with del Tins at an SCA event without some pimple-faced overweight kid (or his mother) whining at me about the "rules". I hate any dumbass who tells me: "You can't wear a white/red/gold belt unles...

I like Pennsic, although I wish I could take my horse. It has the largest collection of merchants and armourers in one place anywhere. I like living in my Panther Pavilion tents. I've spent a bundle of money and an incredible amount of time putting together a camp site that is about 80% authentic to...

It's also a five year old article. I and Mike Odea were in the Knights of Trinity, and we both have done some time with the Circle of Swords. The KOT self-imploded because of ridiculous over-blown egos and were never a true live-steel competitive group, rather, their main interest was in overweight ...

I think many people in the SCA have on blinders. They are so defensive because of the inaccuracies they tend to look at everything as a "they" vs "us" mentality. There is by no means an agreement of methods and applications for the re-enactment or living history communities. There are constant squab...

I like AEMMA, but they have no real presence here in Indiana. I really don't like the "Highlander" concept of modern tennis shoes and T-shirts practicing from medieval manuscripts. HACA is guilty of the same thing, although I am a member. We flew to the last expo, but if we drive, I will be in armou...

The chausses and gauntlets we made, and I have fought live steel for 6 years in it. We did Sat. & Sun., 8 hrs. a day, with ...

They are nice little videos useful as an introduction. I have both and enjoy them. They are fighting straight theatrical, edge-to-edge, so they aren't particularly useful for studying Fiore. They give a good basic view, though, and have pretty good armour & props. I paid $30.00 American each, and fe...

buy some dye... paint it on with a spongie brush. Let dry... You forgot "Wipe off excess..." I agree with the Rev. I made a bunch of scales, tossed them in boiling beeswax, and the net result depended on the amount of time left in the boil. Three or so got away from me and by the time I fished them out they were 1/3 the original size and hard as copper. The scales I made were quite sufficen...
