But Olson enlisted Richard Furrer, an old-school bladesmith in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, to forge the seax, and Furrer didn't skimp on authenticity. Olson points out that the han...

I used to use a fake CoP made of a leather outside, blue foam inside and lined with cotton with the rivets more as a decoration. When I took that off the shape was left in sweat on my gambeson like a saddle leaves on a horse. It was far hotter than wearing a full steel breastplate, and was ugly to b...

Hi, Bedlam, Everything you need can be found here: http://www.mscdirect.com/ Copper burrs are a flat-head, dull nail shaped rivet that comes with a washer. They can be found in hardware stores and building suppy stores. Copper rivets can be round head, flat and one other shape. They pean easily, and...

Fletcher and Anshelm make suitable quality armour, but you have to order "historical" instead of SCA. SCA armour is made for one specific sport. A full harness of Fletcher's Milanese would cost at least $4,000.00. I spent about $1,000.00 on Illusion Armory's b/b, arms & cuisses, and it is fancy SCA ...

I sometimes do. My original "SCA garb" from about 13 years ago consisted of my rock-and-roll stage stuff, being spandex tights, a "pirate shirt" and some floppy-topped boots. Since men in their forties who are slightly overweight look damn silly wearing spandex, I do wear them under harness rather t...

If you are near Cincinnati, call: DowelPete@aol.com He told me they would make ash dowels for jousting lances 10' or 12' at 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" when I contacted them last Spring. Some of the Regia guys said they wanted 7' poles, but no one gave me any money, so I didn't follow up on it. Hank R. sold me...

Ash was the wood of choice. It has a bit of flex to it. It will 'flick' you right out of the saddle. Oak splits too easily and is heavy, although I use an 8' 1 1/2" oak dowel to joust the quintain, and haven't had any problems with the same one in 5 years. Elm is better for bows. If you are not goin...

We bid government work all the time. We are doing the Federal Finance Center where Templar Bob and Hush Girl work. When I bill Roche Pharmacuticals, say $3,000.00, it requires three copies of one invoice. The Finance Center for the same amount can require 60 to 70 pages hand-typed. I sometimes spend...

I've had a nightmare trying to do the same thing. The maille winds up in a big wad under your armpit after about 3 good swings with a sword. Edging it in leather helps, but not much. I haven't tried it yet, but it seems like you either have to mount it in a piece of leather shaped and sewn to the do...
