Linen stuffed with wool weighs a ton when you have to ford a stream. Personally, I think it would be easier to stay afloat in plate than in a padded jack. Haven't tried it though. Conjecture is better than drowning.

"Here Dakota, have a chewy!"

Perhaps the Huns wore it, and that is why the Romans developed rottweilers as wardogs!

Valentine Armoury has about a half dozen for $16.00 a piece on their specials page. They are about 60 lbs. pull, which I believe is SCA legal. I was going to get one as a replacement for the aluminum prod on one of my Iolo bows, but this %$!?&%?! computer crashes every time I try to get on his site.

Back to the chair example, but simpler: We have a 15th C. bench made of green oak, mortise & tendon construction, no glue, dowels or screws. It is real and exists, located in a church. It has been used since then. Similar examples are shown in paintings and drawings. Similar tables are shown in pain...

If you show up in a polyester T-tunic and lime green spandex with Nikes, that is "Not Period". If you wear a bascinet with a Viking persona that is inauthentic. Both the bascinet and the Viking garb are "period", fitting into the pre-17th C. aspect of the SCA, but are not appropriate on the same per...

I wanted to bid on it, but it was too large for me. I intend to wear it under my stainless armour, both for equestrian and SCA, as it is light enough for SCA (compared to my riveted) but won't rust from the horse sweat and slobbers. We have another one that's too small (my lady wears it) that I boug...

I had one of their archers salades, and while it was cheap and they delivered promptly, the welds/grinding was awful and I had to put in hours polishing it. I don't think they were really worth fooling with, as there is plenty of poorly-made Indian armour around.

Bowel cut? It does look like shit!!!!

I thought the military shaved heads to cut down on head lice.

Having long hair and wearing a riveted haulberk with attached coif, I can think of one other reason to shave the back of your head - it hurts when your hair gets caught and you turn suddenly!

A fechtbook is a manual of fighting techniques written in appr. the 15th - 16th C., and usually refers to German manuals, although we also refer to Italian ones with the same term. They usually have a drawing, a verse about the combat, and counters to it and such. They usually require someone to tra...

Why not do something funky to the lion, though? Maybe have it swinging a sword or something (e.g., Norway has it holding an axe, and the Jancovic arms has one holding a scimitar in one paw and a heart in the other)?

Or holding a midrealmer's head on a pike?

An Italian 1450's harness with a frogmouth helm, a second pauldron to fit over the first on the left shoulder, a larger elbow piece and a grandgarde, or fixed mitten guantlet would be a good choice. Take off the 3 pieces of exchange and use a barbute or a salade instead of the frog for SCA combat. T...

From about 1410 to upwards of 1430 the solid breastplate is shown in effigies and artwork, having only the "wasp-waist" then faulds. This was several inches below the solar plexis. The placart was at first seperated by a pair of straps front and back, then sliding rivets further on in the 15th C.

I've seen breastplates that mimic a woman's "assets" for sale at SCA events. I almost bought one at Gulf Wars a few years ago except the armourer (a large black man who hailed from Florida, don't remember the name) wouldn't take either checks or credit cards & I was short on cash to buy it outright.
