Which makes perfect sense. I'd like to see it in Meridies, if only in pas' that specifically incorporate it. In other words, no surprises.

"Spike hilt" swords apparently were mentioned and found within Viking age situations. The hand-and-a-half referred to was assumed to be 14th-15th C. except for the hilt. I don't know if this has been resolved, but Christopher Poore mentions it in reference to his "12th C. sword", while I have a simi...

) Yes. The kicker is that the weapons construction standards make this difficult. If you have a ricasso then you or your opponent can grab it. You cannot, however, make a bar mace. Imagine a greatsword with no marked edge. If you had a thrusting tip you could do all the halfswording you wanted to. ...

With half-swording and steel gauntlets, you can touch the blade as well.

Is this a change in the rules? I thought it wasn't allowed. If allowed, is it also legal in Meridies or just in another kingdom?

SCA Combat Questions

1) While studying Fiore today, I was thinking about one move in terms of SCA combat. You both have longswords. Your opponent throws an overhead at 12:00. You parry him to 1:00, and reach in and grab his pommel continuing the momentium from your parry, and putting his blade down to 5:00 (grounding it...

FYI..... I just shipped a 16 G halberk & 2 coifs from TN to AZ and it cost 36.00 for UPS ground or 42.00 with box & packing. The quote was for $28.00 at a UPS counter but there's none around here close. Weight was 37 lbs. So you are looking at $150.00 to $160.00 net for your shirt. Unless you have a...

Where does this "bitterness" enter the discussion? How do you read that into my post? If you read the whole thread, you'd see someone else had explained my position.

think perhaps my point has been missed. No matter what you need to tell yourself, no matter how you need to pat yourself on the back for the effort, plastic is as period as anything else. There is no difference in authenticity. Now, you might well have put more effort into creating an effect that r...

Lets not forget most wraps require you to be in grappling range. I think you have just found the gist of it. What would you do if someone was close enough to throw a wrap? Grapple. And is grappling legal in the SCA? No. So it developed from the rules as they were written rather than a "natural" cut...

Beautiful. I have one with a detailed version of my coate-of-arms hanging on the wall, but it pales in comparison. I want to make a jousting version with the cut-out on the upper corner. What I'd like see is, instead of all armour being equal at the level of the mail halberk etc... is a tourney in full plate where the armour must do its job , and if it doesn't hurt you don't take it. In other words, these cheese-eaters in plastic toy armour would go home with bruises rather than tit...
