Topic: WHAT THE HECK IS A VENDEL???

The Vendels were a pre-Viking Scandinavian culture, 550 - 800 AD, from Vendel and Valsgarde in Uppland, Sweden. The armour is contemporary with the Sutton Hoo helmet in East Anglia. There existed a possible link for a Swedish origin of the East Anglian royal house of the Wuffingas. The helmets tend ...

It looks potentially do-able. Handmade period merchants get first priority out of 3 classes. They will put you on a waiting list for cancellations, and one of them is 2 - 4 weeks notice, which is no big deal to me. They say you have to be open on the 10th, and can close on the 15th, but also say you...

Damn, you can tell I haven't been there for 4 or 5 years. That field in front of Coopers store had a dozen blanket merchants, including someone selling Jim Hirsoulas' swords the last time I was there. I'm supposed to take some 8' 1 1/4"ash dowels for some of the Regia guys. I guess if Alan doesn't g...

I go by Bjorn the Woodcarver, selling white oak sea chests, trestle tables, benches and ash beds, etc... I may have to blanket merchant if I...

The kerosene eventually drys leaving a gummy mixture that can trap moisture. Better to use either liquid car wax or Johnsons floor wax.
WD40 works great for blackening hinges, though! I just finished a set for a 12th Crusader sea chest.

Your hips have to be bigger than your belly. Otherwise, they slide off the egg-shape, especially when you tie on hosen & chausses. That can be embarrassing in full armour on the field!

Delft Clay for details, casting sand for larger, rougher finish. You can also use casting sand with lost wax casting, where you melt out the wax from the form, but enough stays on the sand to hold the details.
