Re: Anyone have more videos from East Kingdom Crown?
Not to be contradictory, but Gregor finaled last Fall vs. Lucan. I'm fairly certain he's fought in the last 3-4 crowns at the very least. And yes, he's a regular at the Nutley practice (otherwise known as the deep end of the pool). yeah, but he was fairly low key for a while, a couple of years back...

Re: Future of SCA fighting
Thanks Aaron. I hope reviving this thread did its job, and got you your giggles. I also hope that if some new people who were lurking and interested in the SCA either didnt read this thread or take it with a grain of salt. Future of SCA Fighting? Show this to a new guy and see how long he sticks ar...

Re: OT Work boots work shoes??
i always bought the cheapo "tactical" boots from Sportsman's Guide and never had any issues with them (they come in steel and non-steel toe).. I _have_ found that the right amount of lacing around the ankles makes all the difference in my foot pain at the end of the day, working on concret...

Re: Future of SCA fighting
Good thing that many fighters aren't "just fighters". If needed we could and would do all the work needed to sustain what we like. You are rather delusional sometimes. Have you actually ever read corpora? Do you have any idea what the SCA is, beyond "bashy bashy get danglies"?

Re: Future of SCA fighting
I've been fighting for a little while and I pretty much agree with that assesment. Except add that to my last comment. And then they can both stop posting and looking like jerks. Cause make no mistake, no matter how right you both believe you are, you both are not looking like nice people at the mo...

Re: Future of SCA fighting
I think it's absurd the way people add whatever they like to things that I say and then argue with me about extremes that they created on their own. Oh well. The future of the SCA? I don't know. Just like the rest of us. Who added something to something you said, Johno? I'd really like to know. Did...

Didn't you notice? Heavy fighters run the whole show.
don't like the stickjocks who run the show etc...
So why would the opinion of a non heavy matter one whit?

Re: Future of SCA fighting
Good question Maeryk. I really don't know why so many people who seem to hate what we do pay for memberships and go to events and then bitch about how it isn't what they want, isn't historically accurate enough, don't like the fighting, don't like the stickjocks who run the show etc... Why do we? B...

The rapier community has just as many "eye cringe" sights as the Rattan community does. No don't remove their blinders Irish! How ever will they bash the shite out of me if they have to look at the truth of it? There's only one person bashing here, Johno. It's you. YOU are the one claimin...

Re: Future of SCA fighting
Why do we? Because we love to look period, off the field. Because we love to make things, and brew, and sew, and have stunning encampments, right down to period board games. Because if we DON'T like the stick jocks, and plastic armor, and helmet stickers, WE CAN GO PLAY RAPIER WHERE THAT DOESN'T EX...

Re: Future of SCA fighting
Question: In the past five years the rapier community has given us the historical combat studies program and Cut and Thrust. I would not lay CandT solely at the feet of the Rapier community. CandT is much more of a cooperative effort from both the Rapier and Rattan communities. There are portions o...

Re: Future of SCA fighting
I have to wonder.. I have heard several people I know who fight both heavy and C&T say it takes more skill to fight well, and safely, with C&T than with heavy.. perhaps it's those rumblings that are threatening to some? I fight both and I don't really agree with that. It may be a difference...

Do you not know them, don't listen to them, or have never broached the subject with them? As is, hi! Re: Future of SCA fighting
Heavy/how kings are determined is one the MOST ahistorical things about the SCA, when you stop to think about it. I don't know about that, Hasting, The War of the Roses, and a host of other historical incidents decided who would be king by heavy combat/right of arms. Mano a mano? Best two out of th...

We are not supposed to advance and cutnthrust is not something that everyone thinks is all that special. Bullshit. Things that don't change get stagnant. Things that are stagnant rot away and die. I was born in 74 and how should I know the number of fighters in 79? You can look that up if you want to. Rapier exclusive fighters cannot be king because they don't participate in the sport of kings. It has nothing to do with respect. "The sport of kings"? ROFL. How many horses do you ow...

The organization and structure that followed the first events was not based upon fencing and so it had almost no following and no real recognition in the SCA. It was many many years before fencing...
