Re: Interested in your opinions... recruitment poster prefer
Yeah, I get that. But a lot of people have heard of hte SCA and have a preconcieved notion of "what it is".. that's all I'm saying. Even if they never played, they "knew some dweeb in college who wore a kilt and had a katana" or "who had armor made out of old carpets" e...

I see what you are doing, Jestyr.. but I'm not certain it's not going to bite you in the ass. I mean, best of luck, hope it works.. but you might have an issue when people "realize" it's the SCA and react.. or suddenly realize that you can't really have "the fighting and fun" wit...

yeah, I have several sealing kits, and the wax in them is very different from a crayon or candle. It's a very hard, almost plastic wax.. like pure carnuba, rather than a soft wax like a candle.

Not that anyone has asked my opinion on this, but... If Duke Tim wants to win, has been training and is uninjured, my odds on him are 1:1 if Christopher does not fight, and depending on how serious he is if he does. Otherwise 2:1 on Tim, and 4:1 on Christopher. Enjoy! DA Is Tim ever NOT injured in ...

While I'm not as down on the Cloisters as Sean is they will freely admit that the main museum will strip them of "good stuff" when it suits their fancy. Personally, I am using the Cloisters for more furniture, cups and bowls at this point as well as a triptych I've had in the back of my h...

<Shrug> I can't find where a cop under the shield hasn't been the case. At least in the Midrealm and SCA rules I can locate I have a copy from the mid 1990s. But hey - different Kingdoms.... . I think that's the root of it. What was local difference is now being standardized at a corporate level.

Re: Historic source for this helm?
Hey Mac.. we used to use two kinds of drills in the shop.. one was a "step drill" which was just a stepped cone with one cutter on it, and the other a reaming type deal, tapered with four cutting edges, no twist, which would create the tapered hole you are talking about.

Re: Historic source for this helm?
We should differentiate between the auger and the twist drill, Maeryk. Certain of their working principles are similar, but then they diverge. Yep. But we know they had at least the knowledge of threaded things making holes. I'm not going all "doubleknit/indigo BLUEJEANS!" here.. just say...

Re: Historic source for this helm?
Seems the twist drill dates to October of 1861, in East Bridgewater, and later New Bedford, Massachusetts. Patent issued in 1863. A machined edition of an earlier bit made of a flat plate with a sharpened and pointy end. Whether this was also twisted or was more like a spade drill I don't yet know....

Sean: The seat belt law was about a decade before the helmet law FINALLY went away. I guess it's because I always fought with two elbows, regardless of shield or lack thereof, where I just don't understand what the issue is. Does it _really_ interefere with your fighting style that badly to have a low profile elbow behind your shield?

Everyone who won these items needs to leave feedback (doesn't need to be negative -neutrals are just as bad) regarding the fact that the seller is knowingly selling stolen items. Do not claim that the seller stole them, just that he was aware they were stolen. At best the seller can file a claim an...
