Bituminous will burn in a deep pile, anthracite wont. Reading Railroads "The anthracite line" used to haul anthracite out of PA and down to VA and up to NY.. while burning bituminous. Until Wooten designed a wider, flatter firebox that allowed them to burn ANthracite in the steam engines, they had t...

Trevor, can you point me to some good pics? I usually do Japanese, so I'm not the most familiar with wearing long weapons like this one. Also, bear in mind that I'm only 5'3, and the sword in question is roughly 4 feet long. Whta period/garb are you trying to use this sword with? That might be a be...

Maybe he is running a polishing stall, bring your gear along and have it shined up for a small fee. any documentation or reference to a business like that anyone can think of? There has been a lot of discussion and experimenting on this subject. The theories I gathered so far indicate that it basically is an arrangement like they used in the olden days to sharpen razors- some leather, rubbed off with a fine grinding/buffing/polishing compound. Old days? Hehehe.. I keep b...

Just as a suggestion, your physical size might be a good thing to put in here.. most of the armor any of us might have lying around was, well, built for us. I'm 6'3 and about 160 lbs when my last suit was made.. that would not come even close to fitting a 5'8 300 lb dude... So.. what are you built l...

So perhaps a better answer would be two sliding rivits, one on each side, and no central rivit (or a false one for decorative reasons). Are there ever cases where there are three or more rivits that do not slide and simply lock the two plates in place? If , with some practice, you put the ones on e...

WHile most of hte armour here is custom made for a perfect fit, I cannot believe that _ALL_ armour in period did so. My plastic suit had a three piece front, with sliding rivets.. and it worked.. one, you can bend over.. and not get stuck, too it helps with side to side mobility a _lot_ for SCA figh...

Who is making SCA barred kettles currently?
I have a friend who picked a picture off the GAA site and loves the hat, but unfortunately it is too rich for her blood at that price.
ANyone else making them, possibly cheaper?
Thanks!

Corpora states that a candidate must be given a choice. It does not state that the Sovereign must follow through with the elevation. Elevation to any armigerous award is solely the perview of the Crown. Whether one agrees or not with that philosophy, it's one of those traditions that help define th...

For some reason, practically every knife for leather cutting and trimming that I've seen included in leatherworking kits from the factories has been, well, utter crap. No edgeholding at all; they are too soft. Use Ex-acto knives or something else that suits you better. Weavers Leather carries some ...
