German zwiehanders.. I can find you many woodcuts and paintings showing them carried by soldiers and used in battles with pike lines.

Maybe he is running a polishing stall, bring your gear along and have it shined up for a small fee. any documentation or reference to a business like that anyone can think of? That's the perfect reason to look at recreating ITALIAN gothic, rather than the germanic stuff...more rounded surfaces, less fluting.

WHile most of hte armour here is custom made for a perfect fit, I cannot believe that _ALL_ armour in period did so. My plastic suit had a three piece front, with sliding rivets.. and it worked.. one, you can bend over.. and not get stuck, too it helps with side to side mobility a _lot_ for SCA figh...

I dont know if you want my opinion or not.. but I'd go with vellum. Its erasable, durable, and much MUCH easier to write on that most papers you are going to make.
