Remember.. "weights" could be a pile of rocks.. I know someone who does warp weighted weaving at events simply by scrounging rocks, then puts em back when shes done. So, while some of them _were_ very pretty stones with holes in em, some of em were probably just rocks. Or they could have been turned...

spotted pony traders usually has them at pennsic. sykes sutlering may have them as well. http://www.spottedponytraders.com/ http://sykesutler.home.att.net/clothes.htm I have dealt with both merchants, and both were (IMO) very happy to answer questions over the phone, and service was excellent. Welp, I got the suit. It is _definately_ a late 15th WHite harness.. sallet, 2 piece breastplate with sliders and buckle on the middle, and fauld.. fluted tassets, legs, and arms with case vambraces. It's pretty. (well, to the proud poppa, anyway)..a nd found another guy selling bevoirs so I picked ...

sizing, sizing sizing. Thats trick number one. ARe you double jointed? (and no folks, I dont care if it's a myth or not..). If so, the thumb articulation may not work on "standard" gauntlets for you. I have had to reverse the rivets on some.. at the thumb knuckle, because virtually ever guantlet I h...

I have taken a number of shots that the other guy said were "light".. like to the bargrille.. or that he got somewhere he never should have been able to hit. To me, its that he _did_ hit me there, and he hit me there hard enough to convince me if he could do it once, he could do it again. I have no ...

It sounds like, from the description of your armour, that going with a 15th century persona will fit better. Gothic armour is only good up to around 1515 for the Landsknechts. If you have A&AMK there is a picture of a woodcut by Durer that shows Landsknect soldiers wearing Gothic armour and I think...

yeah, I know. No leg armour. I dont find the long tassets terribly practical in SCA combat though.. too restrictive of movement. Maybe I'll just have to make a waffenrock with a long skirt and cover them.. but I _really_ hate to do that. Its a set of high flute legs and arms from ICe, his gothic pau...

I hope to do better next time. This helmet is 20 years old. I have the plates cut out for 2 new 16 plate helmets, but have put refurbished armour and new gauntlets higher in the queue. It once had nice tehen (rice warmer hole?) furniture which was beaten off long ago. Yes, Mo always jokes that the ...

The way I'm reading it, mass weapons are one-handed. - and in Atlantia, a polearm is any padded weapon greater than 30" in length. Unfortunately, it can only have 4 striking surfaces. I wonder if I can make it with 8, but only mark 4 - or would that be bending the rules too much? Make it with four,...

Do you know what I mean as the "crossover doublet"? THe leather one, with the leather leg flaps that ran down to the knees? I realize the leg armour wasnt common.. the loooooong tassets were on the somewhat later suits.. (I have seen the beginnings of those in 1550 art).. but yes, this is for SCA co...

You can work up you heat tolerances quite a bit; but it needs to be on a regular and on-going basis "bursts" of overheating will not be a good thing! Used to work on the floor of a welding/sheet metal shop that made(and tested) industrial gas char-broilers. The doors were open, we were surrounded b...

ca. 1530 German Armour pictures?
Anybody point me to some? I got some nifty new armor from Ice.. (or will this weekend) and need to build an arming coat to go under it. I'm thinking the landsknecht crossover-doublet style, so I can point the legs to the leg bits, etc.. but I need some pictures/drawings/whathaveyou to get an idea of...

There is a NOTABLE exception. Any time someone wanders around the field not showing aggression and thus lulling people into letting them pass. perhaps on the assumption that they are dead or otherwise out of combat when they are not is a loser. I immediately lose respect for anyone that I have to a...

I usually go off my knee.. but that can be tough, since I have always had steel "archers"(?) knees wiht upper and lower plates.. and at times it can be tough to tell where it actually landed. I will usually let the thrower tell me if it was good or not. (Although, if I simply do NOT feel the shot bu...

that belt is also illustrated, in white, hanging over the head of a Knight in a knigting ceremony. but I'll be damned if I can remember hte picture. Yes, the ring belts we wear on the SCA bear a more than passing resemblance to the girth strap on a saddle. *Grin* Bout an inch or less wide is fairly ...

to answer your question of reknown, the man that can only best me by sneaking up behind me and placing his sword in front of my grille has earned no reknown. the man that is allowed to do that and chooses not to is merely playing the game the way its spirit indicates it should be played. the fight ...

The other side of the equation is that a taller man.. (like the 6'8 example above) has a buttload more targetable area than a 5'9 guy does. Theres a lot more leg, that is often more open.. shields being what they are, and there being a practical limit.. I dont necessarily think height is an amazing ...
