Re: Finished black and white breastplate

Yeah but not for a while. Been meaning to go since I know they've got some black and white stuff just haven't got around to it yet. That's why I mentioned it. You can get a pretty good view of this harness: http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a181/maeryk/Medieval/th_IMG_0607.jpg Which might give you ...

Re: vambraces/rerebraces coming out twisted, so annoying.

Recently, whenever I try to curl vambrace pieces, they come out twisted along the long axis. The effect of this is when I put the 2 halves together, on one of the side of the vambrace, the halves will not match up at the cuff. (by up to half an inch.) Even the totally straight rerebrace halves are ...

Re: [SCA] Consent to Points of Contest

It can be viewed as cocky. I for one would _NEVER_ do it.. unless it was with one of my house-brothers and that would mostly be, well, cocky. I fought hard to win that advantage. To then give it up just doesn't sit right with me. The logical conclusion of that "attitude" is that every figh...

What Kilkenny said.. my grip had to sit so the "edge" was lined up with my knuckles (the middle set, not the ones at the base of the fingers) and once that happened, bingo, no more flatso.

Musician's Friend carries new ones.. but you can get one pretty cheap there, just to see if you want to continue with it. They aren't awful, I had one for a while.

40 to 60 bucks is about as cheap as you are going to find them, anywhere.

Re: making a fridge hinge pin to replace lost part?

So you have a bracket that is actually bearing the weight. The washer on the pin is just to keep the pin from sliding through, and as a bearing place for what I assume is a nylon or HDPE washer that the door rides on, right? _IF_ that is correct, then the pin only has to fight gravity, as the washer...

Re: Bituminous coal or Anthracite coal?

John Wooten invented a firebox for locomotives that could burn anthracite. Bitum burns better in a narrower, deeper pile, and Antrhacite in a wider, shallower pile, for the purposes of heating water in a boiler. This solved the Reading and other railroads problems (up here) of having to haul tenders...

Re: making a fridge hinge pin to replace lost part?

See if you can find the right size in drill rod, and a washer that fits. Set the washer at the right height (middle) and peen it into the drill rod with a punch on both sides. Not sure how to draw it, but basically, you hit it right near the joint with a punch at the cardinal compass points to mush...

Revival boots?

I'm looking at the late medieaval high boots (the REALLY high boots).. anyone have these. Mainly, how does their sizing run?

I'm nominally a 12, but wear a 13 in sneakers and the like, so what am I looking at in these things?

Do they run large, small, true?

Thanks!

Footwear in this day and age is easy. China flats are about 20 bucks, and look fine. There are plenty of (gak) cheap importers doing medieval shoes that don't even come CLOSE to breaking anyone's bank.

"gunpowder lost"?

I don't think so.

I've seen what even a small cannon can do, up close and personal. And I'm talking 1 or 2" gun. You can wear all the armor you want.. it's still taking you out of the fight, if not out of the world.

We had a rubberized one that had conduit framing, I believe it was medieval miscellania? Loved it, but it didn't breathe, it was HEAVY, and a huge pain in the ass to set up. Sold that, got a Panther (Icefalcons used special, every war!) and love it. Have since gotten the ridgepole-mounted front fly,...

I have had an idea floating around in my head for a long time, to run a tourney, where the winner is not only the one who fights the best, but the one who best displays the ideals of Chivalry. They have to have a consort to enter, they have to submit letters of intent. They get points for pagentry ...
