It didn't say that when I just looked at it. If your browser is telling you that, try CTL+R (or the equivalent of a hard reload for your browser). It's there, I promise you. Cheers, Bob P.S. Maeryk, please don't remind Kass that she can kick me. I'm just getting over some lovely bruises. LMGTFY Bob.

Re: SCA at an evolutionary cross-roads (A discussion)

Cost + effort > fun + enjoyment Excellent summary! But I would take it one step further: Cost > Enjoyment Cost = financial, social and time cost. This way cost and effort are the same thing. Time is money after all. Fun = enjoyment IMO. With finite time and resources, and wanting to maximize my fam...

Re: SCA at an evolutionary cross-roads (A discussion)

Another point, about stagnation and cookie-cutter events. (Yes, I can hit an event a month, or maybe two a month.. and many of them are the same thing.. double elim, bearpit on the side, perhaps archery and thrown weapons, probably a court and food), our group has done a bunch of "pinpoint"...

Re: SCA at an evolutionary cross-roads (A discussion)

I came away with a completely different impression form Drogo's commentary than you did, Maeryk. I read it as that we're overdoing events, and they're becoming stagnant (which might also have something to do with award inflation?) and boring, and thus it's too expensive to drive a distance, pay for...

I won't be making it to Pennsic. =( I'm actually not doing reenacting with this at all, really. I'm wanting a modified Highwayman's Coat and the only one I've seen available is the horrible black "Brotherhood of the Wolf" one. I'm thinking olive green canvas with a lighter accent color. =...

Re: SCA at an evolutionary cross-roads (A discussion)

Cost + effort > fun + enjoyment Events are becoming repetitive and stagnant. I have no polite way to say this but there are some very socially inept people representing the SCA. Solutions: Fewer, but higher quality, events. Filter who gets to recruit. I admit, this coming Pennsic will most likely b...

Just as a side note... Fighter Practice is about fighitng, learning to fight, teaching to fight. I am not a big fan of fighter practices being a "demo" for recruiting people. I think it depends on where your fighter practices are, and on your local group dynamics. If you fight on a colleg...

I cant speak to big events other than Pennsic, but I know people who keep a storage shed (or even a house) out there, and have "pennsic specific" gear, that lives there year to year, and who will fly in carrying only their armor. Others show up, buy everything at Walmart they will need, th...
