Re: A question about the approach to combat archery.

Also, we already do senarios with and without CA, or with special requirement for combat or appearance (CoTT or single sword battles, for example) that work just fine. As long as there is a chance for people to fight without CA as well as with, it isn't like someone is "taking over". Get ...

Re: A question about the approach to combat archery.

What "Magic Arrow"? I can't find a rule in the Society or Midrealm rules that says "any hit kills." Society states that the arrows should be counted a lighter hit than other weapons, but it is still up to the guy getting hit to agree that it was good - too light is too light, gl...

Re: A question about the approach to combat archery.

I agree Alaric. But the Djinn is out of the bottle, I don't think CA is going to go anywhere at this point. (away). I've long said that the "magic arrow" needs to be addressed, and that it should be more along the lines of "if you are hit in the faceplate, it's a kill, in a normally a...

He's north of me.. so his "humidity" is no worse than mine. The arctic cold won't be an issue, the fabric doesn't care. And "relative" humidity won't be enough to encourage growth. As long as it's put away dry, you SHOULD have no problems.. especially since most modern manufactur...

Oh, it may not be specified in Corpora.. but I'll bet any crown run on a steel tourney will be vacated.. and if you bitch, you'll be R&D'd over it. Tradition carries a lot more weight than the mere wording in Corpora.. check out the argument that "chivalric behavior" outweighs "c...

Re: White Scarves and the East..Is this true?

Nope. Corpora specifically reserves the Chivalry to rattan. I can't seem to find that. I had found the bit that specifically mentions chivalric combat, but I've misplaced it. More on this below. The candidate must be considered the equal of his or her prospective peers with the basic weapons of tou...

I live in one of those Kingdoms, Atlantia. Seriously Alex? As long as you have been in the SCA, you've never seen the disdain that some people hold towards "White Scarves" simply because of the regalia? In my experience (albiet not as long-lived as yours) the distain is for the fencer- the regalia issue is used as an excuse. It's ...

You know this would be alot easier if you took a design already made and just use it for that. Like the director chairs. Just make the folding parts fold up and not down then make the top back poles slide into the backing. Simple make of rope seating and collapsible. And it would look like a munged...

And now for the humor portion of our discussion... If not a white scarf, what will be the regalia of a rapier peerage? Well, it should be somehting that signifies the uniqueness of the art. A possibly interesting new view on the subject, ending in the same old, same old. Yay. . That's because the subject itself is the same. It always has been and always will be in direct conflict with the basic premise of our combat rules. According to your interpretation. Not according to the SEM. Or...

I don't see a problem doing away with the White Scarf Treaty if TRM's of any Kingdom should wish to do so. Each Kingdom should have its own Grant level Order- if they so choose to. The White Scarf Treaty, regalia, etc, are among the reasons that Rapier has seen such a pushback from the heavy commun...

So while the chivalry hated it, they still used it. So what is our guide for approaching it? When our intent is to actually take lands and money from our noble cousins through war we can then use whatever means necessary. When the intent is fun via chivalric contest we do not need such devices of r...
