Re: If you could ask the 'founders'?
Which is why it is best to give some of those people sticks instead of steel. Just sayin I disagree. Don't give them sticks...train them to use swords. If they can't handle it...then they don't deserve to be on the field. Just sayin Rather have more with sticks than a few with swords... Rather not ...

I think you just did. Growth in rapier as the driving force behind a decline in heavy. Is there really a decline in heavy that is different from the overall decline in society membership? or is it entirely perceptual? I mean, I have personally SEEN where someone(or a few) people in a "local&qu...

First thing I'd do is find Therion and ask him.

If anybody knows ethnographic stuff.. it's him.

Can you get authorized at an unpublished practice? (I'm rusty, and don't really remember, honestly, if our practices were "official" or not)

Some would. Not all of course and certainly some wouldn't be interested at all but yeah having another fight game in town does draw some away from one or the other at this point. there are always other fight games in town. So you are asserting that if fencing didn't exist, all those people would instead fight heavy? That's the only way I can see it "taking focus off"..

I have to say, if a girl based their opinion of me and our relationship on the basis of skill at rattan fighting I'd be running for the hills as fast as I could from them. A lot of ladies have told me that it makes them feel good to be around somebody who can "kick ass" as it were. That's...

I'm in no way saying they don't exist.. I'm saying the phrasing is more indicative of having cage or shadow dancers on the wall during FP, than women of inspiration and encouragement, ya dig?
Let's try NOT to objectify women whenever possible.. this is something we already have a big problem with.

Re: Future of SCA fighting
That's my point. For all intents and purposes, any weapon in our game becomes a mass weapon, and occasionally a point weapon, but one with very modified abilities. Doesn't the SCA assumes a chainmail shirt and padded gambeson beneath it, so a draw cut to most of the body isn't going to do much? Fra...

I'm unsure since you quoted me if you think we are in agreement? I pretty much disagree with what you have described both in litigation theory and in that it does not reflect my experience with SCA practice. I'm was talking about the blue card situation (waiver in possession of SCA, Inc.) and the d...
