It would be nice to take the pups for a trip, but I don't think that my miniature continental spaniel would pass as a Hound. I am going to try and be there, schedule permitting... But Yea, Dread Nissan, if it is of Holy War you speak, Your call for Jyhad holds no fear for me, for I know that in batt...

I like the idea of linen, but the cost seems somewhat prohibitive. While trigger can be had for mere dollars on the yard, pure linen is quite a bit more. If I'm making a tunic or surcoat that is going to see heavy wear and is likely to be mistreated to some extent, I would hesitate investing too mu...

Active Marshalling should be left to the following kind of context: Marshall: "That thrust hit your faceplate" Fighter: "Oh sorry, I thought I got it." OR Marshal: "Uh, did you realize that shot left a nice new crease on your helmet?" Fighter: "No, really?" Marshal: "Yup. Right there." At this point...

People telling new members that Trigger is OK is another of those problems that just won't go away. There are so many things that were OK years ago, but don't quite make the bar now, or we have found replacements for that do a much better job- like getting those little medieval boots instead of Bike...

If you despise cotton, you will also despise trigger. Trigger, although a great modern cloth that holds up well for SCA combat, certainly is not period, and does not have a period appearance on the field. I wish that someone would teach a basic class on what materials are good/period and what are no...

I just got one, and although I haven't put it totally through it's paces, I'd say that it was totally worth the 80 or so dolalrs I paid for it. Between that and the $1.09 TOMAR I got, I have won the armor tool lottery recently. It is totally worth the money, but I am not sure it'll do 16ga stainless...

Rev, I was just wondering, all of your posts have exclamation points. Are you always that excited? Regarding the mail issue, There really isn't an easy way to solve this in the SCA. I do recall seeing the one gentle who had a chain pattern embossed on his reggular gauntlets, but that is about it. An...

I went through a similar experience. First they told me that they couldn't get the book, then I was told I could get it for $1. I just picked it up, and the total was $1.09 with tax. I already checked to see if there were any more available, and they told me no, but I ordered an extra just in case. ...

The Pennsic rules change somewhat each year after they are negotiated. There has been a long standing set of rules about shield usage though, with one rule stating that you must have a weapon on the field (no 2 handed shields), and another that states something about no free standing shields or port...

Harbour Freight is great about replacing the electric shears. I know I've gone through 4 pair in the last year, and I haven't been armoring since before Pennsic. I did however just get one of their beverly shear knock offs in, and it seems to be in nice working order. Cuts clean and straight. certai...

I don't see the point behind odd weapons forms tournies. I recognize that for some people they are fun, but I really enjoy the competition that sword and shield brings to the field, as there is enough variation within that form to allow for a lot of differing interactions. I really don't see the poi...

D. makes a good point, you should also carve down your handles some. You would be surprised at how much a nicely done handle really affects the performace of a sword. A smaller grip will also let you more easily change your grip during a fight. You will find that you can only throw certain shots wit...

Gregory, The low profile thrusting tips that are legal in Caid are much easier to apply and use than the old 2" style. They do not detract from the profile of the sword (not that it looks like a sword anyway), and don't affect the weight adversely. I find that the best way to integrate them into the...

Dude, I am bigger than your "fit guy." I am not impressed. I hit fairly hard, but am not in the same league as the big boys. Not even close. The mass alone of an additional 70-130 pounds of muscle, bone, and fat add a lot to the force equation, not to mention that they can more easily use a larger w...

Doug, Please let me know if you are just inexperienced, foolish, or trolling? I really think that you have no clue just how hard a big guy with some training can hit. I was a tennis instructor for years, and I never sat down and read a manual on how to play tennis. I played, took lessons, played more, and got to be pretty good. Properly shaped front greaves, let alone case greaves, might be the hardest thing to properly shape armor wise. I really think that you have a nice start there, but you didn't take them all the way. You have a lot more work left in them to go, but it is a great start! Keep up the good work, as you h...
