I like the idea of linen, but the cost seems somewhat prohibitive. While trigger can be had for mere dollars on the yard, pure linen is quite a bit more. If I'm making a tunic or surcoat that is going to see heavy wear and is likely to be mistreated to some extent, I would hesitate investing too mu...

Active Marshalling should be left to the following kind of context: Marshall: "That thrust hit your faceplate" Fighter: "Oh sorry, I thought I got it." OR Marshal: "Uh, did you realize that shot left a nice new crease on your helmet?" Fighter: "No, really?" Marshal: "Yup. Right there." At this point...

People telling new members that Trigger is OK is another of those problems that just won't go away. There are so many things that were OK years ago, but don't quite make the bar now, or we have found replacements for that do a much better job- like getting those little medieval boots instead of Bike...

If you despise cotton, you will also despise trigger. Trigger, although a great modern cloth that holds up well for SCA combat, certainly is not period, and does not have a period appearance on the field. I wish that someone would teach a basic class on what materials are good/period and what are no...

Gregory.

SCA combat does not equal real. Thrusting only weapons will not work in the overall scheme of things (althogugh you can be quite successful with them). Consider a sword with a thrusting tip as a viable alternative.

Between that and the $1.09 TOMAR I got, I have won the armor tool lottery recently. It is totally worth the money, but I am not sure it'll do 16ga stainless...

If you have access to sheet metal tools, get a rough from the hammer breastplate from Cet/ Dave Rylak.

I think he charges around $50-60 for a stainless one.

you should be able to PM him easily here on the Armour Archive. he is great to work with.

At Pennsic you are not allowed to bring shields onto the field that somene is not actively using (holding).

So a Pavise that you just stick in the ground and shoot around is against pennsic rules I think.

D. makes a good point, you should also carve down your handles some. You would be surprised at how much a nicely done handle really affects the performace of a sword. A smaller grip will also let you more easily change your grip during a fight. You will find that you can only throw certain shots wit...

Gregory, The low profile thrusting tips that are legal in Caid are much easier to apply and use than the old 2" style. They do not detract from the profile of the sword (not that it looks like a sword anyway), and don't affect the weight adversely. I find that the best way to integrate them into the...

Cuan,

I just remember what the "experimental" siloflex and ash weapon did to its test subject. It wasn't pretty.

If that is still floating around somewhere, it could always coe out for a little fun. I don't think a helmet would last too long against it.
