I can think of at least 4 times that Atlantia has sided with the mid.

I an also think of once or twice where the numbers were so off, where I didn't even get a chance to swing a sword at someone during battles.

Re: Slavishly Coping a Style or Unique Expression

as far as following a style goes bryce i never did. Which is funny, because I can watch the someone from NC fight for 30 seconds, (Or before they even start to move, really) and tell if they have been working with you.... OK Bryce- I'm from NC. Looking at my style, who'd I train with? Alaric

I finally got mine hooked up in a test rig, and it heated up some 18 ga spring steel about as fast as Gruber's coal forge does. If I hook up some firebricks or build something to trap the heat with, I am sure that it will work even faster. I have to say that for the cost involved- 15 bucks for the b...

Why can't all this be done with Rattan combat?

If five guys from the SCA, or a mixed group, want to get together and do all of the stuff listed above, but continue to use rattan weapons, it might be more successful.

I found that they broke about the same rate as a regular sword- I broom the last eight inches of a sword about every 3-4 practices, so there really wasn't an issue of finding out how the fuller itself actually affected the life of the sword. I need to test them out some more- the sword I was using s...

I think that there is a point at which people need to look at helmets like those from Ashcraft Baker, and say- those are just plain ugly and non-period looking. What someone needs to offer is a well made Great Helm at a price similar to the Ashcraft Baker spun tops. Great helms look period, and can ...

Nicolai- what makes one armor better than the other? Small things like attention to the weld, shaping variation, finishing details, etc. Combat wise, there are some armorers I wouldn't wear even if the stuff were given to me for free. However, I would pay Eldrid double what he normally charges for a...

I think most armor is underpriced (some just has no right being sold as armor, but that is a different story), and to top that off most people in the SCA have no sense of scope for how much armor should cost.

They are cheap and usually broke.

Armor for shows should still do more than look cool standing still. It should function and not be a liability to its wearer. Spikes, oversized shoulders (a la Warhammer & 40K) and such should not impede the fighter wearing them. I don't have a problem with fantasy armors at all, until someone tells ...

It is odd how many people use leather, barrel plastic, and aluminum, thinking that they are going to "save weight" when in reality the thicknesses of those materials that they have to use in order to satisfy safety requirements makes them weigh considerably more than spring steel or stainless. Get yourself a sand or shot bag, and a piece of rubber board (the kind used in leather work). The sand/shot bag is great for dishing into, and the board plus a chisel lets you set really great lines for fluting.
