I have seen some "deaths" that were really cool too, but on the other hand I also know a few people, including myself, who have gotten injured "theatrically dying" badly enough that they couldn't fight for a while. Although it might be cool looking at times, "dying" in tourney doesn't improve the sa...

Vitus is correct in his statements. Men should fight to satisfaction- whether that be one fell blow, multiple blows, or until they are worn out, both men should leave the field satisfied with the fight- both victor and victorious. In reply to InsaneIrish- the loser can kneel or salute their opponent...

I dumped using my splinted greaves around a year ago, becasuue i couldn't find sufficient evidence for them, and am now wearing red boots with shin gaurds inside them. I am looking for something that will work better on my arms as well- but have not found that solution yet. Until a good one comes up...

I've seen those things used before, and they really aren't effective. You might get one or two kills- but a well balanced pole will get you more kills. In melees, big maul looking things are targets for good fighters and units, who know that they are slow, so they often use them as the striking poin...

Holy crap, I just noticed the part where it says if a weapon is blocked so many times a marshal may rule the weapon broke and the fighter forfiet. why is that a rule for weapons and not shields, esp against mass weapons heheh. I don't think that the rule says simply blocked weapons. I believe that ...

Rebated Swords Helmet
I saw this cool picture online- I think it's real. It's from the House of Savoy.
It looks so uncomfortable to wear.

If you had to think about it the shot was light. I will tell someone in practice, "Good in practice, but not good in a tournament." What I mean by this is, OK, you hit me, but it was light which means you need to either work on your technique or swing a little harder, so let's move on to our next fi...

Tim- We would probably get a lot of grief from someone who didn't knwo the difference about spring steel, but that is the way of the SCA, no the rule seems misleading- by the way you make the wording of the rule sound, it seems that 18 ga 0 temper aluminum (which isn't really even worthy of being ca...

Having had opportunity to read this whole thread, I have to say that I think Stephen is over-reacting a lot. Perhaps this is because he feels his wife got cheater, or because he was sold an inferior product. In either case, from looking at the website pictures at DarkSword Armory, and at the pics of...

20 ga spring steel Churburg Breastplates
Do any of you other 1050 workers out there think that a 20 ga churburg would hold up to SCA combat well? I am planning my next supply order and am considering doing all of my new work in 20 ga (I only do elbow and knee cops, vambraces, and churburg style breatplates). I might do some artiulated knee...

So, what say you about this 14th C. (1358) rig in the context of the SCA? The one on the left obviously. Just curious. Andrew I'd say you look like are recreating an AS28 Atlantian Knight. Actually it looks pretty good, a couple of more tweaks as T-Bob suggested and it'll look really good. Alaric P...

in some areas, archers are required to wwear full armor- this means a gauntlet or similar on both hands Gauntles and large gloves often make shooting arrows from a bow a little more difficult than it is in real life. Crossbows are a little easier to operate when gauntlets are required to enter the f...

It has always bothered me that the titles in this game are not attached to anything. I mean who in period was really just Lord/Count/Baron/Duke so and so? They were Bill, Baron Small Village, or Gerald, Duke of Cottageville, right? Maybe When Dukes, Counts, Court Barons, etc are being made, the king...

Hamish, There are some excellent knights in the part of Atlantia that you live in. They have much to offer in ways of showing how to serve and be a part of that Kingdom. Any one of them could serve as an excellent guide and example for you there. Also, with all of your experience both on and off the...

Period warriors wore horse plumes- not the silly tails just slapped onto a helmet like so many SCA fighters affect. Here is my old aluminum lamellar- it can look messy after a while if you don't polish it on a regular basis, but it still looks better than plastic Alaric http://www.geocities.com/snak...

I have to side with Logan on this, there are many fights where the "touch" to a face grill would not have killed (let alone touched) the fighter inside the helmet. Indeed the funniest situations are the ones in which the grill of a hlmet gets hit from the side at an angle which Never would have hit ...

M'lord Alaric. In a tournament situation i see nothing wrong with your response in explanation of SCA's mindset for the sword against armor. However in a melee situation, agreed a blow can be delivered that stuns a fighter and could leave him exposed, however consecutive sword slash, will still not...

Gorm, a good idea, but then also, A sword blow to someone in full plate will in no way slice through the plate armor, and unlikely damage any flesh beneath. A sword thrust is even unlikely to pierce effectivley through plate. A sword slash against chain is unlikely to cut through, though somewhat p...

My kit, shield, and soft garb all match as closely as I can get them too. I recently dumped the splinted greaves that I was wearing in favor of red boots, and am trying to bring my kit more in line with the icon of Basil II (the Bulgar Slayer).
