I have seen some "deaths" that were really cool too, but on the other hand I also know a few people, including myself, who have gotten injured "theatrically dying" badly enough that they couldn't fight for a while. Although it might be cool looking at times, "dying" in tourney doesn't improve the sa...

Vitus is correct in his statements. Men should fight to satisfaction- whether that be one fell blow, multiple blows, or until they are worn out, both men should leave the field satisfied with the fight- both victor and victorious. In reply to InsaneIrish- the loser can kneel or salute their opponent...

I've seen those things used before, and they really aren't effective. You might get one or two kills- but a well balanced pole will get you more kills. In melees, big maul looking things are targets for good fighters and units, who know that they are slow, so they often use them as the striking poin...

Holy crap, I just noticed the part where it says if a weapon is blocked so many times a marshal may rule the weapon broke and the fighter forfiet. why is that a rule for weapons and not shields, esp against mass weapons heheh. I don't think that the rule says simply blocked weapons. I believe that ...

It looks so uncomfortable to wear.

If you had to think about it the shot was light. I will tell someone in practice, "Good in practice, but not good in a tournament." What I mean by this is, OK, you hit me, but it was light which means you need to either work on your technique or swing a little harder, so let's move on to our next fi...

Do any of you other 1050 workers out there think that a 20 ga churburg would hold up to SCA combat well? So, what say you about this 14th C. (1358) rig in the context of the SCA? The one on the left obviously. Just curious. Andrew I'd say you look like are recreating an AS28 Atlantian Knight. Actually it looks pretty good, a couple of more tweaks as T-Bob suggested and it'll look really good. Alaric P...

in some areas, archers are required to wwear full armor- this means a gauntlet or similar on both hands Gauntles and large gloves often make shooting arrows from a bow a little more difficult than it is in real life. I understand people thinking that wraps with swords aren't the most viable of shots in reality, but a mace could easily be used to throw wraps that would hit hard and be effective.

My concern with ARMA and others like them is that they look to what they do as a Western martial art, and although myself and many others feel that SCA fighting is a "martial art" it is much more of a "sport" than a "recreation."

I do believe that we met at GWW.

Gorm, a good idea, but then also, A sword blow to someone in full plate will in no way slice through the plate armor, and unlikely damage any flesh beneath. A sword thrust is even unlikely to pierce effectivley through plate. A sword slash against chain is unlikely to cut through, though somewhat p...

The skirt is made from latigo leather, which I have cut an edge into and painted gold. I cut the strips with a strap cutter, and then just rivetted them together into a "belt" which I attached a buckle onto.

The fringe was hand sewn onto each pteruge.

My kit, shield, and soft garb all match as closely as I can get them too. I recently dumped the splinted greaves that I was wearing in favor of red boots, and am trying to bring my kit more in line with the icon of Basil II (the Bulgar Slayer).
