I wouldn't say that pieces to be fluted need extra steel, nor does a small amount of fluting take "a lot" of time to do. Sure, maximillian fluting would, but that is another case altogether. Also, in terms of recreation, fluting provides a certain look. You can't have a good gothic suit without it b...

one issue that you might run into with a grill that large though, is that marshalls might make you stick a marshall pacifier or bib on it because "swords could slip in that big gap." Metal and leather do not make a "period looking" not periodly accurate suit of armor. I would rather see 100 people in nicely covered and appropriately shaped plastic corrazinas, than see any more in ugly, non period appearing steel and leather. At least the shape of the plastic would be correct for...

My really really really fast flat snap, as opposed to my really or really really fast flat snaps.

Actually, I think I rely more on the super deep butt wrap, head wrap that I can turn into a leg wrap, flat snap, or offisde, or my deep offside.

Unbreakable shields withing the SCA context are not that out of place. If you are going to have a grill, there is not good reason to have a pivot, they just break and rattle, and move when hit.
