My bet is that you are mounting them wrong. If I remember the pic of your armor, you are not a large guy, so two things 1) the shoulders are not dished deep enough, so they are not resting properly in place, and are prone to rotation, 2) the mounting itself allows for too much rolling motion on the ...

One of the reasons I stopped doing as many demos as I used to, was one day I realized that a lot of people in the audience were wondering just what I was, in the essence that although I was wearing shiny armor, I was not the classical definition of what a knight isn't shining armor is. This has been...

Richard, Darius' name and persona change probably has something to do with the fact that his previous names, such as Johann, and Gunther Pathwarden, then Gunther the Witch Hunter were all proclamed by the Heralds to not be documentable. I know a guy who got Gaven the Castrator passed. If he could do...

I've had 2 major issues with UPS in the last year. 1) They said they were going to charge me one price for packages, and then when the bill came, they had charged me more than double ($180 or so vs. $400+). That is currently being worked out. 2) I shipped my surround sound system when I moved. It ca...

I am not joking. In this scenario, there would be no heavies allowed to attack the cavalry. The Cav would simply get a chance to rout the archers before the battle starts in earnest. It would be a "period" response to the archers, and also an in kind response to their singling out of knights and the...

Combat Archery and Cavalry
What if in one battle with CA at Pennsic, we allowed for a "Cavalry Charge?" Basically, when the battle starts. each side's "cavalry units" could rush out, and while not attacking the other side's heavies, run down all the archers then return to their original positions, after which point the battle...

When I think of non-fighters (and non former royalty), I rarely think of them in terms of a Kingdom. For some reason, I always think about fighters in terms of where they are from, what they fight with- basically what team are they on and what position do they play. I remember the greats of each kin...

I would personally stay with 10-12 ga for the helmet- I like the mass of the helmet itself absorbing some of the energy of the impact. Annealing is the process of resoftening the metal as you work it. When done sith a piece, you heat it briefly to 1600 degrees +- a hair, and quench rapidly in water,...

spring steel is a high carbon steel that can be heat hardened. Spring steel can also be made very "springy" through the right applications of heating and quenching. You can also harden mild steel though a process called case hardening. Due to the higher carbon content and its structure, carbon steel...

You can throw them REALLY far. We played with once, and it was like launching a hail mary every time. I threw it a couple of hundred feet easily and accurately. Plus they are Nerf, so they should be fairly safe. Although they do make this annoying whistle as they fly Alaric- who is always looking ou...

Alaric and Gruber Fire Sale
Gruber and I ended up with a bunch of mild 18 ga and 20 ga steel, that we though was 1050 spring when we started with it. After a week of working on it, we found out that we had 4 sets of almost finished arms and legs in mild steel. We are doing everything we can to try and salvage the pieces- inclu...

Stefan von Dresden and Sir Bailin (not yet Sir) pledged to the Queen in 1994(5?) or so that they would fight one thousand fights in her honor at Pennsic. They were King and Queen's Champion's respectively, and I can't remember exactly, but one of them got sick and couldn't fight anymore, and the oth...

D. While shopping the other day, I noticed that Nerf makes something that looks (oddly enough) like a Nerf lawn dart- fins and all. It's called a Nerf Howler, and you can throw them VERY far. We thought that those covered in duct tape would work well as SCA darts. http://www.firebox.com/pic/p796h.jp...

I have to disagree about the weight issue Lance. I just happened to weight the legs that Gruber and I are making right now out of 1050 spring steel, and they weigh in at 3.6 pounds each- a total of 7.2 pounds for the pair. I currently have a Byzantine persona and wear brass lamellar chest protection...

I've always liked calling really hard thrusts as "Tippy". That's brilliant. I have to use that one from now on. I heard one that went something like this- "I practice with Michael of Bedford..." and he went on to imply that at practice he got hit a lot harder, and therefore he didn't have to take M...

We have 2 styles (three and four lame with different wing styles). See the pics below Please give us some commentary as we are about to go into full 1050 spring steel production on them. Thanks, Alaric PS- If I can I'll try and get some better pics later. [img]http://www.geocities.com/snakepliskin19...
