Any issues regarding PERSONA in this matter are irrelevant. Persona is not required to play in the SCA, nor (for all intents and purposes) is it relevant to how we play. Few enough people care about how their armor matches from piece to piece to make the "but I'm a mongol" type persona arg...

Why does SCA combat suck for some people? The same reason that I think baseball and soccer suck- I don't connect with them. For some reason someone may not understand the sport, or get it- why do I like tennis and other people not? Sure we can look at this a little more deeply though to examine why ...

I'm not sure people will vote with their feet because there is a lack of choice... The problem being that there is a limited number of SCA events. Take me for example. I end up fighting in CA events, even though I despise it, because I don't have much choice. If I enjoy fighting, and only get Saturd...

Frankly, who gives a crap about persona or "historical accuracy." SCA combat is not historically accurate. I don't knock people over and kill them or anything like that. I don't see blodd or smell the smell of "death". In the argument for CA in SCA combat the only things that sho...

I've been fighting in the SCA for about 20 years. In that time, it has become, pretty much, my sport of choice. There were many things that drew me to it, such as armor, and "medievality." When I started I thought anything that would add to that medivality would be cool. I was blind to suc...

I find it no more or less honorable than any other organized sport I have participated in. In the SCA, however, some people choose to up-play the role of "honor" within the system more than others. Does this make them more or less honorable? Of course not, it only makes them think so- larg...

I am working on getting time off for this event. If I can make it up, I'll probably get there just in time to roll out of the car and come fighting at the 30. If I have to, I'll come up just for this on Sunday and fly home on Tues or Wed. I gotta admit, the other scenarios hold very little interest ...

Atlantia has never focused on spear work. For the type of fighting that we normally engage in at war, it just hasn't been needed/required or necessary. That doesn't mean that we don't have some great spearmen amongst our ranks, but we just haven't pushed spear work. This is the first year that I am ...

Hi, I am considering starting a practice down the street from my house here in Kannapolis, NC. This is primarily because I am lazy and secondarily because of my odd new work schedule. Another option is to wrap your hilt in duct tape rope.

Once you grip it, you basically don't even have to hold onto your sword, the tape will do the work for you.

Duke Alaric, since you're in Atlantia, you should talk to some of the knights who also do rapier, e.g., His Majesty Vladimir and Duke Logan. Also talk to the White Scarves who also do heavy fighting. They can give you the most up-to-date perceptions of Atlantian rapier vs Atlantian rattan. Rapier h...
