Boar Hunt
Would anyone else be crazy enough to try and do a real one in Medieval style: armor, boar spear, etc?
It is something I have always wanted to do.
Anyone else? Or am I just crazy?

I apologize for being a war criminal. The CoT made me do it, and I would do it again. You should too. g- If I had gotten that dagger point half an inch closer to your grill you would have been a dead war criminal! Unfortunately, your band of merry men had their way with me before I could finish the...

Outside of that- Gamboissed cuisses- I think I have seen them for sale for 50 or 60 bucks Poleyns- 50-60 dollars greaves- 60 or so CoP 100 a poofy sleeved gambeson will hide all manner of arms you already own. So about 200-300 + a helmet. Or you can m...

At one point in the Village, I got so tired of watching this one guy get hit over and over, and finally hitting him 5 or 6 times myself, that I just physically ejected him from the hut I was in. Chucked him right out. Now the question is, was he already dead too and simply not expressing that well e...

It was really disappointing hearing many of my friends and peers coming off the field during that battle and just talking about how much they were having to...

Ya know, its one thing to talk about honor, and I'd love to think that everyone takes the field with honor foremost in mind. I just dont always see that. Especially in that bridge battle. I was pretty disappointed really. I just got an object lesson in how reputations are earned I guess. You know- ...

No. What WMA practitioners do is a modern modern martial art based on some medieval and Rennaisance manuals. You have no claim to be anything other than interpreting some manuals and other period documents. Even though they may have a base or foundation in some works from the period, WMA styles hav...

And yes, the big fat stupid, untrained and uninformed swing *did* work, and would still work against the mail standard like in the era 1100-1300. It works in that it could successfully and sufficiently dispatch an opponent if it connects. But untrained methods of fighting don't qualify as a system ...

Two men with swords meet and fight. One man has studied all the techniques in a school from the period manuals, and the foot of some master who learned from the same manuals. Really we can never know for sure but you have to remember we are building skills from a book combined with modern knowledge of swords which is highly influenced by eastern traditions. I understand what you say... As s...

Godefroi, You will see terms like Fyrd and Huscarl used a lot. They are not used in the standard historical fashion in Calontir as they are elsewhere. Instead they refer to their mid and upper level fighting orders which they take VERY seriously. It is an honor to be admitted to either group, and th...

Products are only worth what someone will pay for them. Unfortunately, much of the work in the SCA is underpriced for the quality of craftsmanship and time put into various pieces. Much of this has to do with an undereducated or uneducated audience. A helmet to many people is a helmet, i.e.: because...

Future of the SCA
Hi everyone, Over the last few weeks, I have ended up in several discussions regarding the future of the SCA in general, and heavy fighting within the SCA as well. Since I joined the SCA, I have seen both it and heavy fighting fundamentally change. The SCA went from being a group of people who all j...

I am still not sure why more events don't just offer bottled water to everyone. Bottled water is inexpensive (especially when bought in bulk), and I am sure if someone did their budget well, it would not realistically alter the costs for an event, or add significntly to the gate fee. What I see, unf...
