What is the length of these blanks? I want to get a pair for rattan sword scabbards, if they're long enough.

Thanks for the compliments, all. Regarding the falchion made by Hot Black, we did some cutting tests with it when it first came to us. We did the test on an old cottonwood stump in the park we'd hold fighting practice in. I should post those pictures....the falchion has a dull edge like an axe, and ...

To Warclub_33: Since you asked, pictures of a rattan falchio

Warclub_33 (and anyone else interested) : On a previous thread regarding rattan maces, Warclub asked me to show some pictures of my rattan falchion. My personal favorite is based on the Conyers Falchion from Durham Cathedral. Here are a few provided photos of my interpretation: http://home.armourar...

Warclub_33: I have a very simple rule for SCA-style rattan weapons--they should look like the real item as much as is humanly possible, or within Kingdom and Society rules. Also, it should handle as close to the real article as you can make it. My swords balance about the same as my "St. Maurice" D...

It depends on when your crusader lived.

"Heater" style shields had a distinctive curve to them. You'll want to get pictures of effigies, or get Dr. David Nicolle's "Arms and Armour of the Crusading Era". There are many good line drawings included that should answer any questions you may have.
