Hmm. Same message I got, and I just checked.

I note (with some irony) that the site has the message, "Status is updated daily". It hasn't been updated since Thursday, 10 April.

Maybe it because they're slammed with late IRS filers?

SarnacKhan: I quite understand--only I have to do my work with a draw-knife, with rattan in the vice. I like my weight balanced between three and six inches from the hilt (for my swords). Thomas: Actually, that is a crusader period scabbard mount. It is based on a line drawing in Ewart Oakeshott's An archaeology of Weapons , and it's one of a couple of styles I've tried. My own rattan sword hardware is similar, but has dished brass plates on it. Mine is due an upgrade, though....

SarnacKhan: What would be your concern about pommel and crosshilt weight? Too heavy? Too light? Too bulky? BTW, one of the ideas I'm playing with is making a believable scabbard for steppes-style sabers and scimitars. Once I get a workable cardboard pattern that looks right , I'll build one--and sh...

rmermuys: A lag bolt may well do the trick--particularly if the ball bearing has been tapped. In fact, if you have the machinery to drill a hole in a ball-bearing, it may not be necessary to weld the lag-bolt to the ball. You could grind two ends of the ball-bearing slightly flat so they won't roll...

I've seen one--the blade is about an eighth-inch thick with a slight median ridge along its length. The guy who owned them took two eight foot long oak 2x2s, then made them octagonal with a draw knife. Then he tapered one end to take the socket, and nailed the head to his oak spear shafts. He follow...
