Gocin: I agree, the articulated elbow is pretty simple, basic articulation. However , I count no less than twelve lames on the inner portion of the elbow joint. In order to give a full range of motion to the inner part of the elbow, I think it almost has to have some form of sliding rivets for it to...

Another consideration is what time period you're looking at. Plus, you need to differentiate between Anchorites (meaning members of a religious order that have a vow of stability--the proper term for monks in a convent) and Friars (those who are brothers, but may travel). The oldest monastic ...

Gocin: I'm wagering a combination of sliding-rivets and internal leathers is what makes this armour work. Sliding-rivets would allow the arm to twist on its axis, as it were. They would also allow movement on the inner elbow, where leathers would make movement difficult due to the bulk of the leather.

Hush and I were discussing this a bit this morning. It sounds to us that there isn't enough room in the sleeve to allow for the strain caused by bending the elbow.

For the nonce, perhaps a leather patch?

Edwin: From what I can tell (and you can see this in some of the photos), Bogei's lamellar only uses on suspension cord, knotted behind the plate to keep it from slipping.
