I have said it before and I guess I will again, studies shoe combat boots afford almost no better support than a regular shoe. Without the padded ankle or arch support, or proper heel cup like a hiking boot has there is no real ankle support. In fact they concluded more people turned their ankles i...

RE: Combat Boots vs. Turnshoes: For the purposes of SCA combat, one possible way to get the ankle support of a U. S. Army combat boot but with a look of a medieval low ankle boot is to find a cobbler willing to make boots for you with modern soles, but with an upper like a medieval boot. The late, ...

My only problem in turnshoes is compensating for sudden, quick shifts on wet grass on a sloped surface. I ended up ass over teakettle once doing that--not a pretty sight when wearing 12th century braies. There's also the "tenderfoot factor" if you're used to modern arch support, and have worn the tu...

Re: Who makes leather lamellar?
Hi all, Seem to remember there was an archive member who sold lamellar on eBay for reasonable prices. Wonder if anybody remembers his name or his website or whatever. Or if not, if they can point me in the right direction to someone else. Thanks Steve: You need to go to Thorvaldr's Leatherworks ......

http://home.armourarchive.org/members/halberds/mchelm2.jpg T-Bob, Thanks for the pic. Does that helm look way to big for the model? Halberds: Most of the photos of Mac Bible pot-helms show the eyeslot going back practically to the temples. One really good interpretation of a Mac Bible helm is the reproduction of the helm by Andy Goddard on his Circa 1265 Page . These days, Andy Goddard is changing the page to a personal history ...

I wear T-6 aluminum mitten gauntlets with an articulated wrist--all the strength of a steel mitten gauntlet with half the weight. I hope to someday go to finger gauntlets of some description. Searching for a Ph.D thesis by Helmut Nickel of the Met
Can anyone steer me to a copy of Der mittelalter Reiterschild des Abendlands by Dr. Helmut Nickel, former curator of the Metropolitan museum? I've done a number of searches on this subject, but have come up empty. This thesis has valuable information on the construction of medieval knightly shields.

Re: Does anyone know anything about Templar Knight plate arm
I am considering jousting as a Templar Knight and I can't find much more than brief mentions of plate armour used by the Templars. They usually used chainmaill, but I'll get killed using maill in a joust. Some points to consider: ⋅ Plate armour during the late 13th to earlier 14th centur...

It's possible that it never occurred to him that the Templar Rule...
