What is brass gallery, and where do you get it?

Re: Mongolian Helm

As having recently started fighting I am in search of a Mongolian style Helm or something from the area of Asia in the late 11th early 12th century. Berktai: Ironmonger Armoury Helm Page Scroll down until you see the helm in question (it's the fifth helmet down from the top of the page).

Query:

Has anyone considered taking thin slats of wood (about an eighth-inch) and gluing them onto the shield face to create a "bas-relief" effect of their heraldry? Does this sound feasable, or wood it add overmuch weight to the shield?

Searching for a source for shoe lasts

All:

Because Alastair's Footwear is no longer in business, I'm wanting to begin building shoes by the method he used. I've asked Talbot for assistance (which he graciously offered), but the hard part is finding a source for shoe lasts. Does anyone have a reliable source for these?

Midwest Armour-In: Any current plans in the works?

All:

Last autumn's Midwest Armour-In was so much fun, I'm wondering if there are any tentative plans to hold another?

Has anyone come up with a site? Are there any tentative dates bouncing around out there?

Just curious,

As an aside: I recall reading that frequently in history, a knight would happily pay scutage to avoid their 40 day obligation of service.
