spaulder measreuments

Is 11 inches across too big for the top shoulder piece of spaulders? How big can I make them? The patterns dont seem very large and I need something to go over the top of a gambeson and chainmail. This is for late 14th C btw, so I dont think I can use pauldrons for that time period. Thanks.

constructing an authentic spiked buckler

I'm interested in making a spiked buckler and I thought I would put this here for some feedback. Have any spiked bucklers survived? If anyone has some good ideas as to how the spike was constructed, if it was hollow or solid how it was attached to the umbo I'd be interested to know them. Cheers.

Sword and Buckler - superior/inferior techniques

I thought I'd like some feedback regarding two main fighting styles using sword and buckler. The techniques are: 1. Using the sword and buckler together, buckler guarding the sword hand (as often seen in I.33) 2. Using the buckler to create a cone of defence and focusing on the opponents sword hand ...

spiked crossguards

Does anyone have any pictures or photos of crossguards with spiked ends (for using with murder strikes and the such) modelled off images or existing swords say from the 13th-15th century?

Please give details of date and other info if possible.

Thanks.

shinai weapon vrs metal armour

What are some good ideas for prolonging a shinai's life for use under these circumstances (other than not striking full impact).

I thought binding in leather might let it live a bit longer... thoughts anyone?

1000 yr old Medieval Arrowhead on auction

Hi, just wondered if anyone wanted to have a look at this, I have no idea if it is really as old as it states or what it is worth.

Re: Steel Combat helmets

I've since gotten my hands on some scratch resistant shatterproof poly carbonate plastic that is clear and ideal for covering they eyeslots of my helms (and its cheap!). I've put it to the test with hacking and thrusting it against a solid surface and it does not crack but dents with the impact. Ver...

what kind of eye safety protection are we talking about here? what sort of material do you use specifically that stands up to the strike of a metal weapon.

head strike safety ideas for metal weapon combat

I've been thinking on the possibilities of how to safely fight using headstrikes with blunt metal weapons. These ideas might seem kind of weird but its all I have come up with so far so let me run them by, see if anyone has tried them or has thoughts on them. The first idea was to somehow attach a c...

I've been looking into Liechtenauer's sword and buckler and longsword material and just wondered if anyone familiar with the wards and techniques of the system care to comment on who would have the advantage of two fighters, one armed with sword and buckler the other with longsword.

I thought I might try making a short polearm weapon, a spear or perhaps a glaive, for my partners eldest son who is 13. I have taken an interest in making a flanged mace - but I am not too familiar with the designs maces had during the 14th century. Many of the flanged maces I have seen state they are 15th-16th century. Any guidance on maces of the 14th century would be much appreciated. Thanks.
