thats true but then a newly built stocks made today probably wont look much like a newly built stocks made in the 14th century - I'm not sure how the timber was quite prepared or cut to size but I am pretty certain they didnt have electrical skill saws and the likes so I was more after ways to make ...

yes thanks those are good suggestions. I am looking into finding some pictures of candelabras, especially any that hung from the roof. I have seen a candalabra prop such as this that looks like a wheel suspended from the roof with candles around its circumferance - but have no idea if this was taken...

medieval interior/exterior decoration ideas wanted
I'm looking for some ideas for upcoming projects for decorating both inside and outside to give it a medieval theme of an upperclass type of status through to anything one might find in a castle perhaps. Anything anyone has recreations of or even pictures from manuscripts are most welcome to give me...

Hi, I wentout looking for timber today and it was kinda hard to find timber that was cut in the dimensions I wanted. I'm really wanting to stay away from using pine as I dont like how soft it is, much prefer a harder wood, but I am wondering if treated pine because it is the most common type of wood...

how can I make new machined timber look like olde aged wood? this is in regards to stocks I want to make. I'm not sure of the type of timber I am going to use yet or how to make it have an aged appearance. Cheers.

Rondel Daggers - can you answer this question?!
When is the earliest time that rondel daggers with a diamond shaped blade ( = has four edges and looks like a spike) appeared - designed I beleive for penetrating chainmail armour (amongst other things). All I really have at the moment is this from Medieval Arms, Armour and Tactics by Waddell and Pa...

Re: would you accept this (metal weapon)
I think the main attraction it has is the fact that you get to hold and wield a metal weapon. I think SCA fighting is great but there is a certain pleasure in using weapons that are metal, the downside is they are more dangerous to swing about than rattan so we got to take it easier. I wouldnt say t...

Stephen, the combat is pulled strikes. There is a move among some combatants towards what is described as charged strike armour grade combat where the strike must come from behind your shoulder but the lack of armour most people have/wear tends to have most metal weapon users playing with pulled str...

Re: would you accept this (metal weapon)
Dukelogan, I would not want my opponent to accept a haft strike with my axe and I am unsure about the damaging effect of a hook being that great. I am happy to strike with the axes surface but cautious of overly striking with the point which has a diameter of 10 mm and a thickness of about 3 mm. In ...

would you accept this (metal weapon)
I have a spiked axe, I like to use it and use it safely. My question is this - upon striking you with the half of the axe and then pulling it towards me so that either the axe blade or the back spike came sliding into contact with your body would you accept this as a legitimate strike? I know that s...

Guthroth, I am not concerned about my partners kids training, as she is their legal guardian with total responsibility and has been trained as long as myself, so thats not an issue. Originally they were unsure about the idea of their son being involved but since then have become more open to the idea. kids and combat (metal weapon combat)
I am looking at starting up a blunted pulled-strike metal weapon combat group. Now, most groups do not allow kids to participate until they are at least 16 and have a parent or caregiver sign for them to participate. However, my partner's son/s aged 13 and 10 have started sparring with us. Now my di...

You can find painting of men marching to battle, and in battle c1500 bearing scutum sized shields. They do not appear to be pavises. Aye, that he did. But I do believe that the heater became more of a device bearer rather than used as a means of protection. Watching the size of a shield shrink as plate armor covered more of the body. Edward had the full coverage of armour, so I would wager that his shield was just a device beare...

Sure they are probably on the way out but by the amount of images I have seen I believe heater shields, some quite small, were used at the same time, by the same people, while they were wearing hourglass gauntlets. The Black Prince had both. Actually, I do believe, by the time of the hourglass gaunt...

ok, how were you supposed to get an hourglass gauntlet through the straps of a shield - those cuffs are quite large. Are there sources for adjustable shield straps? were the gauntlets put on once the arm went through the shield straps?

What were the things people would be pelted with while in stocks. I know stones were probably the most common missile, as there are several 'accidental' deaths that resulted from people being pelted with stones but were things like eggs (rotton I would guess, who would waste a perfectly good egg whe...
