Thanks for the props, Rana! Fearghus, What Rana said, plus you can call or email if you run into a "Huh?" moment. As far as I know, we're the only pattern company who does that. While we orient our instructions to the beginner, sometimes historical tailoring is so different than modern th...

Re: Searching for the portable longhouse guy

Hmm, kinda got an idea there bigfredb, but I lack that imagination you mention. So not really sure how I could do that at all. And It appears I merged the pic of the longhouse from the inspire thread, with the talks of a portable longhouse in Chris Gilman's house thread... and invented a new thread...

A land based version would also normally include a fly that would attach to the two ends as well to keep the occupant dry.

Depending on how big you want it, you could probably make one by using some imagination, some home depot supplies, and a carport as a base.

Period Patterns vs Reconstructing History

Which patterns are easier to follow (read as easier to actually make)?

Which are more accurate?

What actually comes in the pattern envelope?

Re: Fighting garb?(SCA)

Another vote for Linen, with a word of caution.

When looking for linen, get as close to 100% linen as possible. Be careful, some products are marketed as "Linen", but when you look at their content it shows 65% linen, 35% poly or some other blend.

1. Work closely with experienced fighters. The more experienced the better.

2. Your local marshall should check over the armour in question to ensure it meets (or exceeds) specs.

Videos of Good Tall Fighters

I am a 6' 6" fighter and have somewhat plateaued. I don't have the opportunity (very often) to learn "tall fighter" techniques.

I would like to be able to watch other Good fighters (who are tall) and see if I can learn anything from them.

I would use rubber air hose for shield edging.

As far as the cuisses, I use cheap garden hose (try looking at Big Lots). I cut the hose to length and then split it lengthwise (for better maneuverability). Works better than I expected!

Super light and extremely sturdy. Overall shape reduces vibration received from a direct weapon blow.
