Tool Choice

As a Noob Armour Maker, I am gathering my tools so I am ready in the near future. As I don't intend to make armour for a living and cannot afford a Throatless Beverly Shear right now, which of the following would be good for getting started (both from Harbor Freight): The 14-gauge Electric Swivel He...

Re: Going to France for research!

Ugo,

If you contact the various Museums in advance, you might be able to arrange for the opportunity to photograph (without the glass) and potentially even handle the Armour (under strict supervision).

Show them some pictures of your work, that should help to establish that you are an artist!

Thanks for the reply, may need to look again at a COP.

Mostly, the COP gets in the way when I try to throw shots or I get really bad armour bites.

1000th post! Body Armour - Proper Fit vs functionality?

Been thinking for a while as to what would be a good question to ask for my 1000th post :!: , so here goes: My body shape is significantly different than depictions in Effigies being a 6'6", 275lb fellow. I can't pull off a small waist style and don't like Coat of Plates. I am shooting for a 1335-is...

You can see it at http://www.swordmaiden.net/home/arms-and-armor/eichlings-armor/ and since the patte...

Awesome looking kit as it is. I especially love the helm. Can you post a bunch of pictures from different angles of your helm? A simple surcoat would be easy to make. Here are some instructions: http://sca-garb.freeservers.com/articles/tabards.html You might also consider a Houppeland: http://garbin...

The "tail" is a belt favor from my wife (and is attached to the belt). She is working on one that is a little shorter.

Welcome to the Armour Archive. I would suggest you ask this question in the Classified Section. Just over a week ago, someone sold a pair of egg gaunts for about $100. Also be prepared to answer with what time period/personna you are working on. You never know what good deals are there until you ask...

Have you tried taking your old shoes (the ones you like) to a shoe repair shop to see if they could re-stitch them?

If the shoes aren't fixable, then IMHO disassemble them and make new patterns since they are already your size.
