Re: No SCA...alternatives?

Navy doesn't have 'Combatives' training unless you are in the Master at Arms force. Sometimes the Marines or Army will let you 'play' with them, but not always. Depending on where he is in the Middle East, there may be SCA folks there. If he is in Bahrain . . . I can finally have fighter practice. S...

Welcome to the archive.

Yes, it is a legitimate pattern.

Changes - You will need to cut out the pattern first and size it to whatever shoe you are planning to cover.

Good Luck!

Re: Alternative to Madu

How about using a torah scroll as a mace? Or a big copy of the Koran as a shield? Were there any instances of these uses in medieval historical battles? When I referred to the 'crucifix' in my earlier post. I was referring to a cross at the top of a staff, not a full crucifix with the body of Jesus...

Re: Alternative to Madu

Starting out with Sword and Shield is, IMHO, always difficult. Yes, there is a fatigue factor. However, that may be a result of numerous things including shield construction, shield size, how the shield is hung, personal fitness, etc. With a shield, there is also a loss of 'vision'. It blocks our ab...

Sword and Spear

Sword and Broken Lance

Sword and Broken Oar

Sword and Glaive

You already listed Sword and Axe, Sword and inverted Greatsword.

Heck, if you portray a fighing monk, you could use a sword and staff with a crucifix . . .

By the way, welcome to the archive!!

There are several places that sell this pattern, but this is the link I could find.

Hope this helps . . .

Re: Coat of plates material?

once again thanks for all the tips most of my plates are 18 gauge stainless, but I had to improvise a bit and resort to 16 gauge stainless for the front bits and the spine plates, I'm going with some nice red heavy canvas, what would be the best way to cut out the pattern? I was thinking of rivetin...

Re: 2 stick advice

I knew a guy who fought sword and spear.

He would stand the spear on the ground and kind a fight around it. (Medieval roots of pole dancing?)

The ground would anchor the long end of the lever. He could still use it to thrust, if necessary.

Re: SCA - Size for a flat topped kite

Ulricus,

There is also a "how big am I" factor. The shield side should "look" proportionate on you as well.

Im 6'6" tall and 270lbs, so some of the "regular" size shields look like a buckler when I hold them.
