Re: assistance with 12th century Syrian women's clothing
I agree with both Sasha and Frau Hirsch. I should have been more clear in my post. I alluded to More traditionally, to the Thob which is a 'tunic' by a different name. I don't know if there is enough documentation to say that Thobs with designs/colors or multiple layers of 'tunics' (which I would qu...

Re: Congratulations to the New Barons of Gyldenholt!
Giles and Guisippe are fantastic people, and even more importantly both have the experience, knowledge and (IMO) the temperament to do a great job for the populace of Gyldenholt, and Caid. Here, Here!! Well said! Baron Giles would nearly give you the shirt off his back if you needed it, but more th...

Currently in the Middle east so . . . It really depends on what kind of look you are going for. Arabic (Syrian) fashions for women havent changed dramatically. If you are going for more of a 'Kingdom of Heaven' look (as referenced in the link posted above), research Ghwazee Coats. Lots of different ...

Re: Looking for assistance with picking out a last name
so would Hartman Foscari di Ferrara work then? I didn't see any conflicts with that name. It should work . . . just make sure that when you submit you allow small changes. Mainly because I don't know what the difference between da and di is. Also, don't requre it to be gender specific, just in case...

Hartman According to this link http://heraldry.sca.org/laurel/names/bahlow_v.htm Hartman can be documented as a given name: Hartman is documented to 1281 in Hans Bahlow’s Mittelhochdeutsches Namenbuch nach schlesischen Quellen (Neustadt an der Aisch: Verlag Degener & Co., 1975). Re: Looking for assistance with picking out a last name
The practice of "last" names in medieval times is somewhat different. Use of 'de Ferrara' would be a locative surname which is acceptable. The form would be <Given Name><Locative Surname>. A registered SCA example is Cadiana de Florentia (2011, Meridies) You could also, if desired, use the form <Giv...

I have very spotty internet access until Thursday, but as a small suggestion: if he wants to hide everything except for the head and body armour, perhaps buying the rest from Dark Victory? It's plastic, but very protective, can be easily hidden and inexpensive. I think if you buy everything but the...

Yeah, I've been given some flack for that... but the red A has nothing to do with the book. (Which I've never actually even read.) It was actually a matter of necessity. When I started making scrolls for the kingdom's backlog, I did it somewhat anonymously. I wanted to sign them in a discrete manne...

Mix equal parts Linseed Oil, varnish, and mineral spirits. (all available in period)
Rub liberally into wood, wipe off excess.
Let dry, steel wool.
Repeat 3-4 times.
Really brings out the wood while providing above average protection.

I am trying to translate "Killing Time, Fighting Boredom" into latin.
