Forum Suggestion

If its possible I would like to suggest that board members be allowed to award points to others who recreate fantastic objects such as Jeff Js chair project.

On another forum I am on we are able to award "Laudes" points to other members for contributing information, or reconstructions.

Jeff I just refinished a 1717 French military musket this weekend, and I sealed the wood with beeswax. How do you get the wax to soak into the wood? Do you warm it? or is there something with the ammonia you used? Thanks, Paul BTW I will PM you my address so you can send this wonderful chair to me.

Since most camo jobs were painted in the field with lose regulations on the paint, there is a wide variety to chose from. I just mix the paint by hand and match it up to originals. Plus a decades worth of experience with originals gives me a good idea the shades to use. I have been restoring helmets...

I believe the Native Americans called the Vikings Skraelings not vie versa.

Skraeling is a Norse word for people who cannot differ between a cheesy movie and history.

Can you go into more detail about the dying process? Generally what I do is throw a couple of steel wool pads into a stone jar I have filled with white vinegar. Let them disolve over a period of a week or so. Then I use a paint brush to paint it on. Its more of a chemical reaction than it is a &quo...

New 4th Century Roman Belt

I recently made this belt for a friend of mine in Finland. Its made from 8 oz vertan leather and dyed with iron filings soaked in vinegar. Then it was finished off with a application of beeswax and buffed. The stitching is all done by hand with natural materials. The buckle, tip, and belt rings were...

No, we don't. What if the Normans secretly invented both of those technologies, used it at Hastings, and hid the technology so well that it disapeared from the anals of history never to be heard of again until the machine gun was invented over again much much later? So do we suppose they hid the te...

Well it is still armour! 1916 German Stahlhelm. Those with the eye for it you can see where the inspiration was drawn from. This helmet was a total rust bucket when I picked it up a couple weeks ago at a local gunshow. I first removed all the rust that I could with sandpaper and then Naval Jelly. T...

Just messing around in the shop today to occupy my mind, and get it off the bad stuff happening in my life. I am going to auction this simple belt.
