Cat,

As far as I know there is no evidence that nails were used to attach edging. I think its a reenactorism thats over used today.

Get Dressed for Battle Update and Apology

First off I would like to make a sincere apology to Stephen of GDFB, and the members of Armour Archive. The situation that led up to my post last week was simply a case of mis-communication, and a terrible misunderstanding. Stephen and I have reached an agreement, and I feel as I said in the intial ...

Crusader Axe for Sale

MRL piece made by Windlass. This is one of the older productions with distal taper in the blade. The axes has a small cross pierced through the blade. Not just a piece of plate cut out in the shape of an axe. Sorry I dont have any pics of the axe, but it is in great condition. No nicks in the blade ...

Red Wool Hooded Roman Cloak

Realised that I had a spare red wool paenula in the pile. I normally sell these for 75 dollars.

I will let this one go for 65 plus shipping. I can sew it up the front if you like the style depicted in Roman Clothing by Croom for no additional charge.

Could also be used for other SCA impressions

Marshall I am sure one the Hrotspring shields shows that it was connected in this manner. Laminated shields definately show up pre-Viking age, but I have not seen and serious evidence to show that they may have been in use during this time. Anna, I have made several tricorns during my stint as a 18th cent reenactor. I would suggest that you pick up the book Sketchbook 76. It will cost you less than 10 USD on Amazon, and many other sites. The instructions in there are the best I have seen for making reconstructions of 18th cent headware...

Viking Bench Project

Finally got a chance to complete my Viking bench this past week. The seat is constructed from 1 3/4 inch white oak while the legs are constructed from 1 1/2 inch curly maple dowels. My wife and I carved the serpent from a 8th century Swedish brooch. The runic writing is from the Havamal. Dimensions ...
