More Viking Age Irish!!!

Being inspired by Saverios work, CharlesI decided he wanted to recreate a Clontarf era kit also. So with that this was yesterdays project. I sewed while Charles modeled, and watched Yellowbeard. Sewn from 100% natural linen Charles can be seen posing with my Irish axe, and my generispear. The belt i...

Matts webpage is about the best on the web for building segs. However if you are building these for you movie shoot it would be more authentic to use maile, and the earlier Kalkriese pattern of seg.

Cheap maile would be your best alternative honestly.

You don't even need the bevel gauge. Take three pieces of scrap and put them together a triangle to use a a guide You can eyeball it, or maybe use a miter saw and cut scrap at an angle. I'm thinking you only need 6 to 8 degrees on legs like this. 2" is a bit thick... I'd offer to plane it for ya, b...

Just to throw out this little tidbit. When I was in the Landesmuseum in Zurich a year ago, there was a 16th cent style kettle hat on display that had a huge gash in the side above the brim. This gash was at least 4 to 5 inches long and approximately 3/4 of an inch wide. So for those who believe that...

I have two samples of GDFB Roman maile here at my desk. Its 6mm OD alternating solid, and riveted. One section is tinned, and the other is let bare. From what I have been told GDFB is copying this style from an existing piece of Roman maile. The tinned sample is simply beautiful, but to me it looks ...

Speaking of bullets not pentrating targes. There is a localyokel here who shows up at most of the local 18th cent events, and rondyvoos (spelled this way on purpose) with his very fantasy Highlander impression. Anyway a good friend of mine has known this guy for years. He called him up and asked him...

Original bosses I have studied tend to be from 3 to 5 inches in depth.

I think this would open a market to the customers who want something more authentic, yet protective also.

I guess the one thing I learned from this thread that "plaid" only incites debate, and not much evidence to support it being used in the Viking Age LOL

Peder,

Its might be the fact that the SCA is more available to some people.

The SCA definately has a wider reach than many LH groups out there.

Also there is the ability to change impressions on a event to event basis.

Thats just my view on it.
