Thats why I said there are cheaper and better sources. Also the Romans were weaving cloaks to shape with no sewing other than closing up the hood. So this material would be fantastic for that purpose. Then again your still stuck with cut edges.

Jehan I think it would make a killer cloak. However I would never pay that much per yard... there are cheaper sources.

Tim why not sew a hood? I know its an anachronism for most pre 1300 impressions, but its better than sunglasses. I have a good illustration of a Roman era hood being worn, I believe its Germanic in origin.

Klaus I will see what I can do. I will try to spend at least one day at the Landesmuseum when I go. I also have to spend sometime in a Roman military museum in Brug, but they allow photos.

I bought one of the axes in Albions Moat sale simply because of the excellent deal they were offering. Can someone give me some info on this axe design? I read that it is based on a piece thats dated to the 16th century, but it just seems to have a earlier period feel to it.

I am leaving for Zurich on Thursday.................I will see what I can do. But the lasttime I was in the Landesmuseum in Zurich all photos were Verboten! :cry: and the Swiss are sticklers for rules.

Just FYI, if these soles are going to be walked on. Ie, used as shoe soles. Chances are that the deer leather will wear out VERY quickly. Deer leather is very supple and soft and will wear out fast. Thanks guys! D. when I carve bone on my power equipment I always wear a dust mask. Bone, antler and horn can cause serious breathing problems thats true.

Joe I got the bone at the pet store then I carved it into that shape. Bone is easy to work with. I find it easier to shape than wood.
