Had a old German Army guy tell me once they would pour a whole bottle of alcohol down each jackboot, and wear it until it dried.
Similar story from a WW2 US Paratrooper was to spray Barbasol shaving creme in the boots, and wear them until they dried.

Thanks for the advice guys! I have a complete harness, and a bow already to go. No disrespect to anyone, but I am not going to reprort my local marshall to anyone. I think he has simply made a mistake, and I will discuss it with him.

Combat Archery Authorization in AEthelmearc

I am considering authorizing for combat archery this spring. So I contacted the local marshall and I was told I had to be a authorized fighter in another weapon form ie sword and shield, great sword etc etc. Is this true? I cannot find any such requirement anywhere on the AEthelmeaerc.

Re: What caused the demise of the shield?

Good Morrow, What caused the demise of the shield? -Aaron I dont think there was a demise of the shield. We still see shields being used in European warfare until the 18th century. Of course as others have said the development of armour, and gunpowder made them less popular. However they do not see...

Late Roman Ridge Helmet

Very interesting presentation of a Late Roman helmet. Its really easy to see the influence on the later Vendel styles.

Dan,

I agree 100% with you. I called Bob one day after pulling some strings to get his phone number. All I got were lame excuses, and not even a simple apology. So...Bob has lost any respect I may have had for him.

Vitus, I just normally use nails. They look more like period rivets, and they are a helluva lot cheaper. Stick them in a vice and whack them from 4 different angles on the head to make them look more hand made. Then I just hand cut square washers from 18 gauge scrap brass, iron whatever is at hand. ...

Hooded Cloaks?

Is there any evidence for full circle wool cloaks with hoods? or is this a later period, and Hollyweird invention. I am specifically looking inthe 12th to 14th century era.
