While the movie is horrible for historical examples, I wish 20% of the people in the SCA could acheive the same level of costuming that the movie provides. With that said, I think it would be a wonderful resource for the SCA.

What's interesting though, is just how quickly they became obsolete, becoming less and less frequent in the 1670s-90s and disappearing from the battlefield by the early 1700s-1710s. If you are speaking of the plug bayonet you are correct. However, if you are talking about bayonets in general, you a...

I've always heard some time between the 1640's and 1660's, and a plug bayonet at that. With 16th and early 17th century tactics, you simply didn't need them as pikes and other polearms integrated into formations. I agree Dan, but I came across a mention this morning mentioning the use of bayonets i...

Bayonet

What’s the earliest mention of bayonets being used?

Most valid references I have found seem to point to the mid-17th century, but I recently came across a mention of them in the late 16th century, but with no solid evidence provided.

Re: Jackboots, Marschstiefel, SCA Knight Boots

How about the rubber soled East German jackboots that dried up years ago? Hey, the original surplus versions of those boots were great, I wore them for SCA fighting for years! They were replacements for my earlier harness-boots-with-the-straps-and-rings-cut-off. (I too cast aspersions at your tiny ...
