What type/length of leather and how many do you need? Colors options are usually limited by what the supplier has on hand. Usually black, brown, and vegtan are easy to get. Weaver and Tandy are the big shops but brettuns does a decent job. The real leather people also should be on the list. If you n...

For pewter I just use a propane torch and small crucible. The crucible I have is a bottom poor model and only holds a few oz of material. big enough for army figures, bullets, sinkers and tokens. It takes only takes a few moments to refill the crucible and reach casting temp for the next poor. I'm u...

A lot depends on the metal your casting, how the item will be used, and what your setup for. Pewter alloys have a low melting temp and work well for decorative items. A bit more costly but you can get decent detail. Often small scale bits. Aluminum higher melting temp and requires a bit more setup c...

What is the object in question? If you start with a rubbed finish You may try treating it with heat and oil. Just like you would treat a piece of new castiron. It often takes several light coats. To much at once makes it sticky and may not be a good choice For knives, heat treated steel, or anything...

Re: Mis-sold Aluminium Sheet
For the most part its easier to form.
It cuts easy but can clog up abrasives.
Particle size form sanding tends to be small, so use a fan or resperator.
It also has a low melting temp and can be cast fairly easily into forms.
They don't last long but work well enough for hobby level work.

It varies a lot depending on the alloy and temper the aluminum may have gone through. what your going to use the finished armour for also make a difference. Harry you can use something like a bench cleat or even just a piece of scrap wood attached with C clamps.
throw in a toggle or heel/strap clamp and it holds the piece in place.
It also keeps your fingers out of the way so you can see what's going on.

Either the tool or the work needs to be secured to a heafty bench.
I have a small 6" buffer thats mounted to a board. The board gets bolted to the bench when I need it and stored when I don't.

Some alloys/tempers require artaficial atmospheres or coatings for participation in the crystals structure to happen...
