Re: WTB stainless splints
Your looking at counter sunk rivets... you can try using either #8 or #10 burrs with 1/8" rivets. If the splints are internal I would use round, universal, or truss head rivets, leather, splint. Using the steel splint on the inside as the burr. A standard countersink bit or deburring tool can be use...

Re: WTB kydex or steel splints
After reading the data sheet is reads a little like fusible interfacing. Thermal bonding foam and plastic laminates. Not exactly what you want for splints, though it may work to add a little structure to leather. More masks and costume pieces. Someone with more of a materials science /enginear backg...

Your local ace hardware may change a bit more but will have similar items. If not instock than on special order. Uhmw or HDPE can also work in thicker sections. Kydex works well, a number of other plastics also work. You may have an enginear or materials science person in house able to give you othe...

You might try local shops that do trophies and name plates. Scrap metal works fairly well though its often brass. Buffing question
I ordered a few felt buffing wheels but they seam to be for a tapered arbor or something.
Do I need an adapter?
Can I simply punch/drill a new hole?
Am I better off ordering other wheels?
My buffer has a 1/2" or 5/8" arbor, and takes a 6" wheel.

For the most part I use a chainsaw file to change the shape of a drilled or punched hole. 1/8, 5/32, and 3/16" are fairly common. Full length of the filel removes a decent amount of metal. If it needs to be longer than 2x the hole size I punch/drill two or more holes and grind away the material in b...

Mild steel should be a little cheaper but those are still good prices. More decorative work usually starts around $50 or so. Fox knife armoury makes some beautiful stuff. Shields themselves can be expencive to ship. Depending on your location someone likely has a shield press. Laminated 1/4" plywood...

There are a few different ways to power a kiln. Eletrical usually either run a kiln sitter or a controler. Kiln sitter work much like a fuse, it deforms at a known temp and breaks the circut. Controllers operate with a thermocoupler and relay. The relay turns on an off cycling till it reaches the pr...

A lot depends on what type of leather and how its treated. Unsealed items wear out faster as sweet and salts working the leather. When left in a dark warm space mold, mildew, and funk develop. Some treated with simple bees wax will soften if left in the car. Most leather armourys use waxes, oils, or...

I'm fairly happy with how the flat sided 1.5"-2" rattan feels. The oval or pear shaped grips help a lot when it comes to reducing rotation and flat hits. A handful basting stiches should let you remove the padding without issue.
Over time the stich holes can start to wear.
Good solid brass snaps can also work but can detract from the overall look.
Velcro may also work but over time tend to collect random fuzz and become less effective.
