Re: Domed rivets? Or flared? )SCA-specific)
depending on your supplier other rivet types work just as well. truss or universal head rivets tend to be lower profile and it makes a difference in tight articulations like finger gauntlets. though many people use escutcheon pins as rivets instead. Steffans leather had the solid brass ones at penns...

Mine showed up in the mail when I was at pennsic.
Good looking tool that will see use next week after I catchup on laundry, lawn care, and derust my remaining stock.
I'm a happy customer,
I would throw more money at the remaining stakes if pennsic sales went better.

Re: Question about leather for corrazina
You might find rjleahy a cheaper option for rivets.
For burs a #8 or #10 washer may work.
Jiffy rivets work but make sure they are solid brass.
The tandy ones tend to be plated steel and will rust over time.

Re: Question about leather for corrazina
Avoid dye if posible. Most will transfer if left unsealed and most seals make the leather stiff. Crome tanned cow can work well, if you have a local furnature factory they may have seconds cheap. Often a small scratch, scar, brand or other flaw will make a hide unusable. 45-50 square feet is more th...

Re: Dishing / Raising Question
It will work but your forms need to scale with the force. moving 1 square of metal at time uses a lot less force than trying to move a 16" disk or 201 square inches all at once. Your also only moving it a little bit at a time overlapping with the last hit. to much depth at once can wrinkle or otherw...

Often smithing coal is different than what power plants are using.
Localy the coal plant is actually two seperat locations.
One processes coal into coke before sending it on to the generators.

Where are you located? A 5hr drive for coal is a lot. There maybe a coal yard closer at hand. Prices can be all over the place but cost per ton is a lot less than prepackaged #50 bags. If there are any pellet stoves shops, coal power plants, or industry there maybe a coal yard or at the very least a...

Your going to have issues generating enough force to form it all at once without a big hydraulic press/ram. Dapping or dishing may work well enough and can be done cold. To reduce noise you can do a few things. Adding mass and make sure your forms are well mounted. If the form is hallow back fill wi...

If your still learning hammer control and fire management find a few basic pieces. What are you using them for?
Boiling leather is a bad idea.
16 gauge stainless and 9oz leather seams fine on its own for sca combat.
Though it depends on the size and spacing of the splints.
