Sometimes pieces show up in the garage sale section starting around $25 or so.
Ironmonger armoury may be another option around $45 for mild steel.

Hjlmar or Otto armoury should be able to make something as well.

So basically Dover clip art or coloring pages blown up to size? Do you have access to a wide format laser jet printer? Its fairly easy to print in reverse and transfer the image with a standard iron set to cotton. It helps to make the lines a bit darker and a little wider. You may need a little touc...

Re: Strapping wingless elbow cops

Also use a thin buckle. 1/2" is often enough. You can also try tying the cops on with cord. Use paracord or similar laced from two holes in each side. Lace them so the cord forms an X across the elbow. The big problem with this is the cord will ware out over time. You will also need someone to get a...

Pointing to the gambison seams to work if that's an option.

Another option I like is Y shaped or tapered straps
Make sure the buckle sits off center.

About a decade back at AE war pratice I took a great sword thrust to the chest. I had a coat of plates with "pockets" and one of the plates twisted on edge. Fairly certain I cracked a rib or something. It hurt each time my heart beat for about 3 weeks, nearly 8 weeks before I could breath without pa...

In general primer is not paint. On its own it won't hold up to much at all. enamel paints seam to work best on helms. Sometimes sold and tractor or implement paint at farm stores. Usually two thin coats does the job. A few of the guys touch up before big events and repaint every other year or so. Ep...

Craigslist, auctions, and estate sales. Larger vices are expencive when purchased new. Leg vices can sometimes be made or purchased looking in similar places. Antique shops may have them in the $150 range. Other places much less. Your local scrappers, and junk yards may find them once in a while. If...

Brows your local library. The author AJ Hamler has a few books/designs that work fairly well. The two civil war wood working books have items that work with in the medieval period. The Blood and sawdust webpage is worth looking at. If you have the time and space look at what would be useful for othe...

Some of us also like fix and repair projects if the price is right.

interesting, it looks like east allows butt spikes. Midrelm does also but has a ruling against weapons with a 360 degree striking surface. To me that sounds a lot like the Kong/potato sorter maces. If your doing SCA or have any intrest in making walking sticks or canes build yourself a shaving horse. There are a number of tools available. With files size makes a difference. Longer 16" if fairly fast. EGG uses universal or truss head aluminum 3/16" rivets.
the 1/2" works for most plates but you need something a bit longer for plate to plate connections.
