when I started the problem was a bad batch flux core wire. what kind of wire are you using also what kind of shielding gas? it may be your gas coverage so try and keep a little closer to the weld surface set your gap at about 1/16 and give it a try pratice a bit before trying a helm. try a back hand...

mig wire question

ok I have most of a 10 pound spool left over form this years course in welding
its 71-gs I have a small mig at home that uses the 2 pound spools. is there a way to put the flux core wire on to a small mig wheel or make a axile for the larger spool to run ti on a smaller mig welder?

also works well for small art metal bits like flowers and picture frames.
the cases on the power supplys is quite durable but there is very little of it.

sounds like you may have gotten a spool of large diamiter MIG wire. submerged arc wire can come in about 14 guage maybe a little bigger. as small as.023 depending on your supplyer.
may also have been tig rod depending on how it comes.

server cases are perfect for armour.
regular cases work well for lamallar or chinese mountain pattern armour.
pattern for both of them can be found under patterns or essays.

you might beable to find fiberglass poles at the local farm supply type place in 3/8 inch about twice the size of the bike flag poles avalible at wallmart work well for boffer cores. I beleave that one of the large fencing suply places makes some childrens boffers out of solid foam should work well ...

making a coat of plates is a little cheeper.
done with steel or plastic plates riveted to a 4 oz leather. quick rivets will let you get it done in an weekend.

go with either a coat of plates or some splinted leather. coat of plates will cost maybe 50 to make less if you have the tools. leather a little more but not much. easy enuff to get done in a weekend or two. joints take a little longer but not much to cover. gauntlets and a helm are going to be you ...

bolt cutters work well for round stock.
wiss shears will work for 16 but its rought going. save up some cash and stop at the pawn shop check for any tools they may have.

more of a middle eastern style. other things were smoked but tobaco is what I would use for an A&S project. I rember hearing once that tobaco also had a old world history form the dark content. The newer varitys importated form the americas were less harsh.

piece of leather cut about 3/4diamiter of pool noodle. make a X in the middle about the diamiter of your ratan make it a bit tight pusth it on and tape it up.
if you are not using clackers make it a bit smaller.

I use a 4inch piece of ratan split in to quarters shave the back side in to more of a trapazoid cross section and tape it on

if you are going full speed chances are you will end up spliting the wood.
If I rember right the tread had the sugestion of making a leather sleave at fir over the baton. be it wood or ratan. for a more period look them ducktape.

maybe if he sees how horedus it looks he Will decide to go with something a bit more traditioal. Or maybe he wants the brestplate to be anime and just has trubble describing what he wants.

it makes my head hurt.
a strong snap form a sword to the top with blade paralel to the ground the the apex of sead helm.

or a flat snap to that ridge would do a lot of damage to your weapon. a little dry or maybe a little worn would snap it like a twig.
