Re: First time Leatherworking tools/questions?
The back may be an issue when it comes to hardening as a single piece. Lammelar is a fairly good starting option if you have a source for 8-10 veg tan scrap leather. I use a utility knife a lot with my leather projects. Purchase quality blades in one of those contractor 100 packs and you should be g...

Re: best garland hammer for helmets
The #3,4,and 5 work well. There are a few other brands besides garland that make a split head hammer. Green and tweed, Thor, and Chicago sometimes show up on eBay, usually noticeably less than the garland brand. You can also try the larger plastic teardrop hammers like Eastwood, dagger, or other. No...

B1 and B2 shears still show up every once in a while on eBay and Craigslist so keep your eyes open have money available when you find them.
The HF version is OK untill you start cutting 14 or thicker steel.
The article about adjusting the blades and tuning helps a ton.

Re: Easybake Armor: The Sculpted Plastic Armor Project
A few points worth considering. When cutting the plastic hot try finding a head knife. They are fairly useful for trimming bits and pieces. I find myself using a deburring tool quite a bit as well. For the tricky points and creases try making a positive and negative mold. A 3/16" spacer between the ...

Aethrlmearc also no longer permits mandrake tips in fiberglass spears. There are a few other options for low profile spear tips. Icefalcon has one and there are a few home built options. I know there have been issues in the past with foam wearing out in a battle with mandrake tips but that was a few...

Re: Valsgarde 6 Project Questions
A lot of it depends on how your blackening the helm. Your going to want the surface clean to start with. shop grime and finger prints can cause blemishes in the patina. Some chemical patinas can be applied with a brush or misting bottle. Those could likely be applied around the rivets or mask the ri...

I think kult of Athena or icefalcon may have rings. Icefalcon may be out of the shop at gulf wars. Re: Riveting, curved pieces, and tight spaces
with quick rivets like the two piece type from tandy it doesn't really matter what side you strike. I find it helpful to support the piece on the inside with a ball stake or support the outside with a piece of scrap lumber wood and simply put a small piece of scrap metal over the area supporting the...
