Re: Anyone with experience in Case Hardening?

What carborizing compound are you using? I would likely start by looking at anvil fire or i forge iron. The two biggest blacksmithing forums on the net. Then consider looking at cost of time vs shipping in known materials. Even if you successfully case harden the piece your still need proper heat tr...

Often we see perf plate used for crossover armour from jousting groups or rapier combat. In such cases the group has its own standards that help pickout your best option. At one point out brothers in Lochac required additional coverage when combat archery was on the field. Using wooden arrows with b...

Re: Grinder attachment for initial sanding

I think your right sanding or polishing disk. They come in a few different designs. Sanding is often backed with a hard rubber disk and the abrasive paper backed with adhesive, hook and loop tape, or a threaded fitting. Some require you to use your own adhesive. Carpet tape works fairly well. I use ...

Look around and ask others in your region. Publish a list of equipment your looking for and see what your local group is willing to spend/donate. If you can find a few people with tools and time it may work for the fighters to make their own armour or collectively build loaner gear. Plan a few armou...

A lot of it is foot work, point control, and efficiency of movement. I used a bunch circles on a mirror or alphabet letters on the fridge/door. Tennis balls on a string or a length of pool noodle marked with eletrical tap also work well. A C clamp will let you hang them from joists or door jams. Big...

You can often ball park hardness with a file on the back part of the blade without effecting fit.
Chainsaw files are around 68-75 ideally your looking for something a little softer around 55-65.
The file should scratch more than cut.

Casting can be tricky.
Making them like you would nails from should be doable.
Though te heads will be a little eregular unless your using a form.
A little slow but not bad if you have a source for the wire/rod.
If your getting any splitting try annealing the material first.

Prices can be effected by market, condition, location, and extras.

If things are restricted location makes a difference.
More paperwork and finding an FFL shop adds around $5-$20 per page for paperwork and documentation.

Different ropes stretch at different rates over time, heat and moisture can effect this as well. This can cause your bed to sag or shift after a few hours. Adding wedges can help take up the slack without untying anything, A turnbuckle can do the same job, but it can take up to much slack and torsio...

How big do you need it? There are a number of canvas pavilions in various sizes. But do you have the man power to setup, take down, and care for a 40x60 tent? There are also structural concerns. Rain and wind can snap poles, ropes and stakes. You don't really want to deal with a structural failure. ...

Fairly easy to make with time and tools In wood.
Ironmonger armoury, lewellen Godwin, and halburts often have them.

The first two have them cast in ductile iron.
Hal used a steel ring.
