I would look at the draw vs the plug rating.
Was the outlet on the same circuit?
It looks like there was an overload or a short.
It may help to tin the wires before adding the plug.

Gobae At this point I'm just playing around with steel and seeing what I can enjoy making. I sold a few shield bosses to a guy in southern California in October that madmatt made. He ended up using them as lamps based on "The Viking" by Tre. Tryckare and asked me to make a few more in varying sizes....

There are a few patch options, but at some point your going to want the plate replaced. epoxy, backer plate, fillers, and such are really just temporary fixes that may last for a while. Its either going to be harder and break when the plate flexes or not bond well with the sheet. Eventually your goi...

Well the archive limits image sizes, it can help to use an off site host like imgr or photobucket and link to the image or use thumbnails. Details help, Who made it if known, material, size and condition. If its a helm for SCA combat thickness, material and diameter are important. Your location, how...

Sometimes you can find other split head hammers as well if your looking on Ebay or yard/estate sales/auctions. An alternative is to use a plastic hammer like those used in shaping body panels and fenders. I use a larger 2.5" Teardrop plastic fairly often, At one point you could find wooden mallets i...

Welcome to the archive. For materials look through your local businesses and see what's available. Fab shops, welding supply, arcatectural metal shops and such often order material weekly or monthly. Adding another sheet of steel on the truck is fairly cheep. Some sell excess materials as "drops" Yo...

I would start with pulling up the rapier/cut and thrust rules.
For the mask portion you need a little more material for the perf plate.
Thinner material can be a littler hard to fabricate.
Boughing and associated processes are much more likely to crease or fold.
With heat treating it may cause issues.

Setting up the forge on subzero days makes for an intresting work session. As the temp warms the anvil tends to sink into the mud a few inches throwing off the hight. F your doing a lot of these types of enlargements there are a few tools that can help. An opaque projector or a pantograph. Pantographs a fairly easy to make but with larger pieces you have to reposition both images all the time. An opaque projector really needs a dark room and a wall you can hang y...

Start by looking at your resources. Space, cash, somone with experiance to mentor are the big ones. Building a bow vs making arrows/strings. For most I think your better off making arrows and strings. Tools, space, and mentor are a lot easier to come by. Scraping $1 in materials for a short string o...

Have you considered heating the shop?
Working in a cold shop with cools tools makes things cool down a lot faster.
Expecialy if you have air flow or ventilation.
Just like wind chill air movement will pull heat a way from the piece.

You'll likely want vervells of some type and a piece of leather. Talbot has some budget aluminum ones that are fairly easy to finish. You can also use copper or brass wire and make cotter pins. The chainmail attached to the leather makes care a maintenance a lot easier. The vervells work a lot like ...

The price per square foot drops a bunch if your ordering full sheets.
most suppliers are also willing to cut the sheet into 4x4 or 2x4 sheets free or cheep, makes shipping and transport a bit easier.
Its often worth splitting the cost with other locals interested in metal work.
