Re: Question about leather belts

It depends the blank is likely treated with something like supersheen from tandy. I think its a thin down acrylic wax or something. from the sounds of things the leather is just dyed and sealed with no current tooling. If its a water based dye like Eco flow or alcohol based like angelus you may be o...

With condition not being an issue they are praticaly free in the spring...
Often older damaged balls endup in the snow bank at the local bowling ally.
By that point they have collected to many diviots and gravel to be used for anything but lawn ornaments and forms.

Be a ware many "modern" import files are case hardened. Top lair is nearly brittle hard while the rest dosen't have enough carbon to hold an edge. They still work as files and are a lot cheaper to produce. Last I heard nickleson and a few other brand name files are still decent steel through and thr...

I think viking leather craft and maybe torvaldr... At one point torvaldr was looking at getting a new die made for lamellar. I know his arthritis is limiting production currently. Punching the holes and lacing the rig together will likely reduce cost. a few leather shops also have scraps and pieces ...

I would start by talking with them about what they want to make and what tools they have at home. A lot of us started armouring as a way to get on the field for sca or other group. Assume they are going to put in an hour or two under your supervision. And likely a lot more time at home working indep...

Windrose and icefalcon sell it. The pannel edging comes in a number of styles and types. Width you want near your shield thickness and leg lenth around 1/2" or more. With the internal clips its a bit more expencive but lasts longer and stays on your shield with minimal ties. A few people have used a...

For roman stuff there are a few sites worth looking at. legionxxiv.org romanarmytalk.com romanempire.net The legion xxiv page has a few diagrams that should be fairly useful for torso armour and the soft kit. pattern out pieces with posterboard before cutting steel. Things change a bid depending on what your using it for.

Most combat groups have governing documents, standards, or rules outlying arms and armour.

BOTN, jousting groups tend to have higher thicker plates then foam combat groups.

Think a little on the design of your anvil and see if you really need all that steel.
It may be easier to go with something thinner then a 12" cube and support the anvil a little differently.
