Fortunately in another thread I posted the question concerning the location of my persona and someone told me about the burning of Birka in the tenth century so I had already decided to move to either Hedeby or Sigtuna. Concering social status. The basic is a fairly rich merchant with a good sized f...

I'd rather step on the field and have people say "there is a rich norseman" but I know everyone is going to think viking. From the pictures you referenced it looked like he had a conical with nasal. The bar grill was under it but he had the chain aventail over it so that it was fully hidden. Used a ...

Location question
I have heard alot about both Birka and Heddeby. Both seem to be very important cities. The problem I have is that it seems like both get called "the trade center". Which one is the major trading center from about 1016-1049? My entire kit is based on living in a major trade city for the Norse during ...

Norse Armour
Hi there. Its been a long time since I've asked a question here. But my recent decision to never step on the field in armour that isn't correct has decreed that I get some help. I know that chain was used during my time period but I was wondering at any other documentable forms of armour used. If no...

Ok. Just coming into this conversation because I am yet again scouring the world of research to find good information I just want to say thank you to all of the people who have given their opinons. Mord, while most of what you said makes very little sense to me I would like to extend a special thank...

Helm patterns
I am in the process of working on making my first helm. The problem I'm having is getting the pattern correct for a four panel spangen helm. I was wondering if someone might have pictures they'd be willing to share to show so that I might get a better idea of what I need to make. I have the skirting...

I must admit I'm jealous of some of the kits I'm seeing and hearing about on here. I don't have mine even close to finished but I'm working towards early 11th century Norse. I'm working on a suit of lamellar and use a kite shield with a hand axe. I'm also in the design stages to make my first helm. ...

I trust my gorget. I've had blows hit my throat on several occassions and I was thanking every divine power I could think of for having it there. I use 14oz leather with half inch foam padding inside of it that covers pretty much everything of my neck with flaps for the breast bone notch and upper s...

Well Eoghan its a shame you won't be there. I promise I'll drink a large horn of mead for you. Several times if I can manage it. *grins* And you will most assuredly see me at Bards and Bows. Merchanting available? I'm actually thinking I may do the Juggler, Tumblers and Bards again. It went over pre...

Doin multiple persona's can be fun. And very difficult. I'm in the process of finishing the first outfit for Phillipe Alexandre Desautel. A frenchman from the Marseille region from 1555-1615. My primary is my viking obviously. Another persona is Iwakawa Kumatarou Arimasa. A ronin from the Kamakura p...

Malcolm in this I must agree. Dying to a bowmen who is using a long bow is something I accept hardily and accept as a feat of skill. Dying to a guy with a crossbow is just annoying. I joined the SCA to get away from firearms. Quite honestly I know of some who can fire their crossbow faster than a mu...

This is a terribly misdirected sentiment. The game of being a knight belongs to the knights, and it is they who set the standards. If you don't want to be a knight, then following your own path will have no consequence on your fun quotient. Damning them for failing to reward what they have deemed u...

I know of at least 5 or 6 knights who can't stand polearms. I have heard one actually say he thought any who fight with polearms should loose their authorizations. (I also understand what he says in chiv meetings isn't listened to much anymore.) Perhaps CA might hurt you in your quest for knighthood...

Steve. The negative connotation is only with some knights. Similar to the knights I've met who hate polearms. I live in Aethelmearc. The knight who I rent from is very good man. Considered a shining example of knighthood by many of his peers in the Order. Not only does he not mind CA he's actually p...
