Alec, that is a truly nice kit. I hope that my scale shirt turns out that nice. I am getting almost done with the lower part so I am hoping to be finshied my the end of next month. I was wondering who made your helm and what kind of protection you have for your legs and arms? I will post some pics w...

Wow; that sounds like Da Bomb for high performance/low maintenance brigandine scales too. Would even thinner metal, with proper heat-treat, work as well for a brig application? Oh sure, I wanted to get .025, but they were out of stock and told me they were not planning on getting anymore so I went ...

I have been working with 410 Spring Stainless and I am very impressed with the results I have gotten. I am usinng .032 thickness for my scales and after they were heat treated, they are as tough or tougher than 14 gauge mild with the flexibility of spring and rust resistance of stainless. Only issue...

Audax, I have watchd you fight over the years and you have a lot of great ability. It is good to have a bit of anger in there while fighting. I like to use what I call Agressive Focus . Your body while fighting is reacting to the situation in raising adreniline and endorphins. You have to use this a...

I have a Roman persona and I am having the same issues as well for arms and upper leg protection. Right now, I am knee deep in my scale shirt I am working on which is coming along nicely, but at a slow pace. I thought of adding ptuerges for some upper leg protection, however the era I want to portra...

To me it is very interesting that we live in a world based on symbols. In a lot of ways its been that way since man started worrying about its survival. I have seen there are symbols the society overall assume what they reperesent. If I saw a swastika, like everyone else, I would automaticaly think ...

Scale Armor Woes
Well I have been hand buffing (bench grinder with a buffing wheel) out my heat treated 410 scales recently. I have just started my third row which means I have hand buffed 120 scales give or take. It has been grueling slow, but it is the only present option I have right now. SO to change things up, ...

This is such an awesome thread and very fascinating. I envy you guys making stuff for movies such as makeup and special effects. Sometimes I truly think they rely on digital effects way to much. You just can't beat a kick ass creature that is actually there. If I ever got in Hollywood it would be a ...

MY fingers are beyond being sore nowadays. Heck I barely feel heat until it blisters the skin... After all the grinding and cutting my hands laugh at buffing the scales. The only thing is I wanted to get the shirt done before Gulf and I just don't see it happening. I am getting a nice satin finish t...

Well, I started buffing out the scales and once again another labor intensive process that I think will make it dam near impossible to finish before Gulf. I guess I just have to go next year to show it off. I am going to try my dammedest to finish it though. The buffing works good and the shine up r...

Thanks, the heated lime juice did help in removing the purple discoloration, but there is still present oxidization and discoloration along with the dull grey finish. I am loathing in having to buff out all of these scales, but it will be worth it to get a nice uniform finish and to increase rust re...

Well so far the concentrated Lime juice is doing a pretty good job. I put my solution in the microwave for a minute and then place the scales in the solution. It has been romoving all the purple discoloration and leaving the scales a dull uniformed grey look. I might do a once over with my buffing w...

I have a bottle of concentrated Lime and Lemon juice int he fridge. I use it for my fresh salsa. Would that work? I was thinking of just leaving the way it is, but as I read to have the full effect of rust resistance, I will need to remove the scaling. I am a little disapointed because I was hoping ...

Happy day, today I just picked up my 827, 12 pounds of scales and I am ready to put this shirt together. The scales were hardened at 1850 F for 30 minutes in a gas fan. They were then tenpered at 1050 F for 1.5 hours and air cooled. The color of the scales is a psychedelic bluish purple tint to it w...

I am not going to defend performance, but I bought some Roman Greaves from him and the first set that was sent to me were way to big and just not very good at all. The next pair he sent were great. To me, they seem like they were made from a different armorer and the later was very good. I am very h...

There is nothing worse than being stepped on by a person with cleats on. I have had done one time to me while fighting. My foot was sticking out and a person stepped on my ankle with his cleats. It was like someone shoving multiple spikes in my ankle bone. I do really wish they weren't allowed. As f...

Yep the eyes can lie, why I look at both eyes and the body at the same time. As for what to look for, I hate say this but it depends. I do however believe that the body can't do anything unless the feet are underneath it. You can fake shoulders, hands, neck, even foot work at times, but your center ...
