Kestrels finished-first run

OK-so it's been a month, not a week, but ain't that how my life goes? See pics below. These are 9-10 oz leather, lined inside with pine brewers pitch, and heavily waxed outside so they will be tougher and won't water-stain. Stoppers are oak, and are attached to the kestrel with a deerskin keeper. Th...

Thanks for the compliments. Abaddon, I won't know for certain until I pitch them, but the smaller ones in the pic should hold between a pint and a quart, and the larger one should hold maybe 3 pints. I've read tell that the largest Mary Rose kestrel would have held about a gallon. I'll certainly see...

Kestrels/Costrels on the way

I've been wanting to make these for ages! Now that winter is closing in, I find myself (strangely) doing more "inside" work... Anyway, here's what I have in progress. They are waiting to be dyed, waxed, and pitched. (I think I may have seen that movie when I was in college... ) These will unfortunat...

In stock armor and armor books pages FINALLY updated

It has been about a year minus a week or so since I updated these. There is a pic missing yet from the In Stock page, and several from the In Stock Books page, but those should be up tomorrow. I have also updated my Roman Accessories, Articulated Knees, Zischagge helmet pages, and added a few new pi...

If you have a welder and a tap for threading holes, it's a relatively simple matter to bolt the ball to the bar. You can buy a single tap (and the necessary size drill for it) for a few $ at any hardware or home despot-type place. For a shot-put sized stake, probably a 1/4" or 5/16" thread would wor...

I spotted an item of interest at the local Harbor Freight Tools. And before you say it, yeah, I know they have a lot of Krap. Ya gotta evaluate EVERYTHING there. That said, they have an auto body set that actually has a couple of decent items in it. It is NOT the usual set they have with small hamme...

Now offering decorative Roman rivet bosses

I finally got around to making a page for these. They are 24 ga, which makes them fairly stout once they're embossed.

I also have brass 3-ring belt plates in stock.

Thanks for looking, and please email any questions.

To CLANG clients waiting on current commissions

As most of you know, I'm in the midst of building my new shop. I have high hopes that this will not only make my armoring life a lot easier, but will allow me to increase production as well. However, all the time (and $$!) I've been spending to that end lately has drastically impacted my commission ...

There's a pic in Boccia's Lombardy book of the inside of a 15th C Italian BP that shows very clearly an oval reinforcing plate that the lance rest staples are mounted through. Brake drums are cast iron-you can't get a reliable weld on them-at least not on something that is subject to as much heating/cooling as a firepot. Most brake drums have a lip around the inside edge. Nice mods. FYI, a lot of medieval latten (bronze/brass) was very yellow looking, so I wouldn't worry too much about the color. It seems that throughout history, a lot of "bronze" included whatever they had left over from last time, so the proportions were sometimes pretty random. The Romans reserved...
